New to Sprint and Question on this phone

I am thinking about changing from Verizon to Sprint soon but wanted to check out some things first.
1) Does Sprint offer 1 year agreements?

2)Are any data downloads free after 7pm? For example if I transfer pics and music from my PC do I get charged anything other then the .15 per message?

3)About the Samsung M500--can anyone who has this phone tell me if the external screen stays on all the time when the phone is opened and you are actually on a call?

Thanks in advance.

1. No, aside from the month to month $29.99 wireless plan, all the rest of the Sprint wireless plans require a 2 year service agreement.
2. No, Sprint charges data by the kb, not by the minute. Unless you subscribe to one of the current three Power Vision Data Packs, you shall be charges $0.03/kb for accessing the internet from the Samsung M500.
3. No, the only backlight that can be regulated is the main LCD.

raycarroll70, is this a new policy? As recently as about 4 months ago, I got a one year agreement from Sprint on my Treo 700p. You have to pay slightly more for the phone, but the one year agreements were available.

It seems like a big risk to have a two year agreement when the technology is changing so fast.

You can get a one year agreement and pay more for the phone but all the rate plans require two year agreements...except the one month to month plan

The Area-Wide plans are also available on a 1 year agreement. 😎

One year agreements are available from Sprint but they will lie, cheat and steal to make you sign up for 2 years. I called their customer service and talked to literally 7 people and every one of them told me a different thing from "I don't want to sign you up for a year" to "My computer does not let me choose a one year contract" to "You work for the government so I cant sign you up at all"(I dont work for the govt). Finally the last guy told me I can only get a one year contract at a Sprint store. Sprint is a bunch of thieves, I am thinking about switching to Cingular.

HAHA! Well in response to that again, Meyman is right on a couple issues but exaggerates only slightly. 😛 The 1 year agreement is only available with certain minute plans. If you have a buisness account (Which is what government plans are) you aren't eligable for the one year contract. The reason for this is because government contracts already recieve a monthly service discount.
The free after 7pm night and weekends option is for minutes only.
Don't know about the backlight but I know you can regulate how long it stays on inside your setting.
And yes, I am a thief. 😁

The guy who robs you, SprintGod.

It's confusing why I can sign up for 1 year at a Sprint store like I did twice before but over the phone they don't give you that option. There is also no way for existing customers to renew a plan or buy a phone online. When I talked to customer service the lady told me that she thinks I probably could buy a phone online but she didnt know how and where to go and told me that she gets many calls like that but doesnt know the answer. When I asked(a different tech) about any software for my phone(it comes with no disks) I was told to try to browse the Sprint download page and maybe I could scavenge something useful there. Shouldn't these people know about the 15 or so phones they are selling or at least have some knowledgebase they can read ...
