Try BerryTunes at http://www.virtualviews.com/. It's only $15.95 and works fairly well. The demo only runs for 3 days or 30 songs. Be careful with the 30 songs bit, because even if you start playing the same song 30 times, even for a second each time, your trial will be over quickly. ☹️
The computer side of the program compresses your mp3 files to about 1/7th their original size. And I thought normal mp3 was compressed! Whew! Is probably loses a bit of sound fidelity, but you can't really tell on that tiny Blackberry speaker. The sound quality is good. The volume adjustment is not very granular, but plenty loud or soft enough. You can't make phone calls while listing to music. Oops, there goes another trial song use. Sorry, no love songs ...

The key to this though is the fine print. It plays through the BlackBerry Speaker, not the headphone port.
The fine print says:
"Wired headphones are supported in BlackBerry OS 4.2. Currently, OS 4.2 is only available on the BlackBerry Pearl. Once BlackBerry releases an OS 4.2 upgrade for the 7130 and 8700, headphones should work by simply plugging them into the headphone jack."
Does anyone know RIM's plan to allow 8700's to upgrade to 4.2? I haven't been able to find that.
