N75 Battery Issue (More Information)

I've done a little research on the N75 battery issue.

For those who are saying to use the BL-4B battery in the N75 - you are plain wrong. There are many sites out there who are saying it is the correct battery for the N75, but they are wrong. The BL-4B is only rated at 700mAh, while the correct battery is rated at 760mAh. (These are the NOKIA ratings listed for the batteries themselves. Beware, there are incorrect specifications listed everywhere on the net). The BL-4B will fit, and yes it will power the phone - but it has less capacity than the BL-5B.

The BL-5B IS the correct battery for the N75. This gets confusing as Nokia's own web site shows TWO BL-5B batteries (one with the BL-5BT label, the other simply as BL-5B). However, ...

I think you need to double check your research. I have the BL-5BT battery in my phone, and it just so happens to say 800 mAh, just like PhoneArena says, just like this very site says, and just like Nokia's website says. So yes, those who are using a 700 mAh battery, are absolutely using the wrong one. And no, the BL-5BT 800 mAh is the CORRECT battery to use for this phone. After all, that's what it came with out of the box. Let me clarify one more thing. Nokia's accessory website, which you link here, does indeed say that both the BL-5B and BL-5BT are 760 mAh batteries, and when you look at the compatibility part, there is no N75 on the list. It seems that Nokia has made a different BL-5BT battery just for the N75 which happens to be an 800 ...

Ok, I stand corrected.

But Nokia needs to fix this situation. Just try to find a BL-5BT battery. Its impossible.

Folks are buying the 700mAh battery because thats what the AT&T folks are selling them as replacement batteries.

I just unlocked and then unbranded my N75 last week. I changed the setting in the Nokia firmware to only use GSM network (I'm not in a 3G area and the phone periodically checks for 3G if you don't change this setting), and my battery life (which already wasn't TOO bad) has now almost doubled!

In fact, with the Nokia firmware, this is almost like an entirely different phone. Stereo bluetooth is enabled now, the menus are easier to navigate, etc.

I totally agree. I think my battery is on its way out cause its been charged so many times. There has got to be a way to get a hold of a BL-5BT battery without buying a brand new phone. I'll be looking around for one and be sure to post info if I can come up with something. I haven't done the unbranding thing yet, but I will when I get a chance. Do you remember what things you lost in terms of programs when you did yours? That's the only thing I'm worried about. Someone said that Media Net stays, but I was skeptical.

So I emailed Nokia, asking how I am supposed to get the proper battery if it needs to be replaced, when your website doesn't even have the one that came with the phone. They replied saying, "Douglas, if you experience a problem with your Nokia N75 battery, you may send your Nokia Original Enhancement directly to our repair center for warranty coverage." Then they go on to say, "You may want to go back to your point of purchase to see if they carry the Nokia enhancements for your device, or you may search the web by your battery’s model number to see if there is a vendor that carries it."

And to add more interest to this subject, AT&T has the wrong battery listed on its accessories page. They have a 700mAh BL-4B.

So I called Nokia, just to see what they'd say about buying a BL-5BT 800mAh battery. I told them the website had this 760mAh battery listed under the same name, but I wanted the one that came with the phone, the 800mAh one. After some searching, the guy told me that if I want one, I can call one of the flagship stores in either NYC or Chicago and they should be able to send one to you at the designated cost (probably $50).
