Motorola W385
Speakerphone
Hi everyone, I'll be getting the W385 next week and was wondering if there was a speaker on the outside of the phone. Also when using the speakerphone does the phone have to be open or can I talk using the speakerphone with it closed? I'm upgrading and my previous phone doesn't have a speakerphone so this is all new to me, thanks for the help.

This phone is awesome!! The speakerphone is the great as well. You can talk on the speakerphone with the phone closed or with it open. I have found that this phone get outstanding reception in all areas including fringe areas. I use the phone for phone calls and texting and I am more satisfied with this phone than with any other phone I have ever owned! I hope you enjoy yours too!

Thanks for the info crans, when you use the speakerphone does the sound come from the ear-piece or from a speaker on the outside of the phone? I've read a lot of good things about the speakerphone's clarity and am curious where the speaker is located.

I am almost certain the speaker is located on the back outside of the phone, and that is why you can use the speakerphone when the phone is closed. Like I said it is a awesome phone.

I'm finding that the speaker phone is terrible. everyone says it is muffled or has an annoying echo when I talk. speaker phone seems worse than previous models.

I was thinking I should take it in for relacement and I did so today. I was unable to reproduce the effect with another cell phone though- it sounded just fine. ?? I called someone I know with a regular telco line and it was back on their end. They reported an annoying echo. I used another W385 in the store and called again and the problem persisted. I called one more time with another model of phone and there was no echo then.
It was not my just phone but was a problem with the w385 model's I have tested this on. and there IS a problem calling a regular telco number when on speakerphone. I am posting this in the hope a USSC rep or tech will take this issue up with Motorola. I am hoping that it can be fixed with a firmware update.
