BlackBerry 8830
Questions regarding 8830
1. Will the 8830 work with Exchange Server? I don't care about push, pull or any of that, just so I can set the device to get my email every 30 minutes (or so) and manually on my command.
2. Can I view MS Attachments (Word, Excel)? Can I modify them? Will it play a PowerPoint Presentation? Will it read PDF attachments?
3. Is the volume when listening to it as a phone really good? I am slightly hard hearing so this is important. XV6700 is rancid. How is the speakerphone?
4. Assuming it synchronizes with MS Exchange Serve...

1. First of all yes the BlackBerry will work with the Exchange server. The product is a push product that's how it works! No such thing as a manual get for e-mail on this product.
2. Everything except PowerPoint and this is a view only cannot edit. However I believe there are some third party software maybe on Handango.com and others ?
3/4. No it will not synchronize contacts, calendar and task items wirelessly. However the product come with a task manager disk that can move info from Outlook . A different deal if you were using the Enterprise Server your using the "BIZ NOW" .
5. The tether plan is $15.00 extra per mnth @ evdo speeds.
6. No GPS now .
Looks like it might be a good time to change providers.

Thanks for the reply but bad news. Having the wireless sync with Outlook, through Exchange Server, is an absolute must. And the Treo 700 Smart Phone version apparently blows for all the lock ups which I'm certainly not willing to live with.

If you have an exchange server account you turn on "wireless reconcile" and after that you get everything.
I never put my Blackberry in a cradle and when I make a change on my desktop, it immediately updates the handheld and vice-versa.
I am with VZW a...

This is great. I have heard a lot of good things about the blackberry phones, I will now find out for myself. 8830 on the way.
Make sure once you get it that you go into:
OPTIONS, then select: EMAIL RECONCILIATION
then select:
DELETE ON:------->Mailbox & Handheld
Wireless Reconcile:------->ON
On Conflicts:--------->Mailbox Wins.
If you select that option, as soon as you delete something from the Blackberry, it remotely deletes it from the Exchange server so if you use Outlook, it deletes every time Outlook does a "send and receive". If you use Outlook web mail, it does it instantly.
Likewise, delete something on your PC and you'll see it update on your handheld.
It is just like having your pc in your pocket.
The 8830 is a great phone - what auth...

What I am trying to do is use Enterprise Server for Lotus notes (the crap software my company uses) and I would also like to be able to use VZW wireless sync I currently use for my Outlook email as I currently do on my Motorola Q I have now.
Anyone who has an answer will be my hero. I do not trust sales people at the store and do not want to go to the trouble of leaving my Q unless this idea would work.
Second question: If This works wouldn't my contacts and calendar update just like they do now through VZW wireless sync.
2. You can have up to 10 e-mail addresses that will:
a. send the mail to the Blackberry by logging into your personal mail server as long as you authorize the username and password. Mail will be delivered on an incoming basis mixed in with your "work" mail on the Blackberry but it will not appear on your desktop or appear anywhere at your company.
If you use GMAIL or a few other services, they have a few neat applications that allow you to send and receive the mail completely separate form the exchange mail.
I do not think you can use wireless sync on a Blackberry, that is handled by the Blackberry Enterprise S...

That's correct if you have an enterprise server and IT. Other then that it goes to the desk book manager. PLS e-mail the link that proves otherwise. 😛
There is no link because the original poster asked if the Blackberry worked with an Enterprise server. If his company has an Exchange server and the Blackberry software package on it then he is completely compatible. If not, then the choice is to use the Desktop Redirector feature which involves leaving your pc on all the time if it is corporate mail.
If he has unlimited data on the Blackberry, there are a lot of e-mail services which push the email out to the device using the PIN assigned to the Blackberry.
