BlackBerry 8830

Does the phone recognize the 4GB cards? Several times within the past week I've seen people complaining about the 4GB cards not working. Every time you go to format card it says failure and that the card isn't recognized (I've seen it myself).

I'm looking to trade in my Treo 700p for this phone later this week and would just like to know before I purchase the 4GB card.

😁 blackberry now offers a 4.5 update via bell mobility in Canada.

Just go to Blackberry's software site and select Bell Mobility as your carrier.

This update fixes the biggest issues with this phone (ringer volume, streaming video, mms messaging, docs2go, voice recorder)

This update makes the 8830 just as good as the Curve or Pearl with the exception of having a camera.

The update makes the phone great!

Every e-mail says, "Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry". How do I disable this feature?

Also, does anyone else always receive a copy of every email they send? I'm using Gmail, I'm not sure if that's the reason.

Lastly, is it possible to reprogram the soft key on the left hand side for something useful rather than voice dialing? If you could use it to lock the phone instead that would be better.

I've heard in the past that the call quality is not the best on Blackberry devices. I'm assuming in this latest version RIM has worked to fix that issue. Can those that already have the 8830 let me know how the Call Quality has been for them so far?

i have had my phone for about 7 hours now. and while i have been trying to play and navigate and such on the internet, my evdo signal plummets and then my phone informs me of no internet coverage and i then have to wait 3-5 min for my signal to plummet to nothing once again and the jump start back to normal where i then can continue to do what i was doing online for another 5 to 10 min until the same thing happens. i already ordered a replacement, just wanted to see if anyone else had this experience

Guys, I am so psyched to get this new phone. I was on the Q9m for a week and could not deal with the whole windows disaster. I had to constantly manage applications and kill them and the battery even with the extended was horrid , about 1.5 hours of talk best case.

So I got the new 8830 yesterday and I love the OS very much.. The mail and test and overall feel is great. Lots of my friends have the Curve and I expected the voice quality to be at least as good as that.

It's aweful and I mean aweful. You can be anywhere where there is any noise. I was in the mall and called a friend on my Moto V9m and he could talk to me no problem. I called him on the 8830 and he could not wait to hang up. It picks up every sound around you and amplifies...

I regularly find my calls answered by a customers automated service that wants me to "dial the person's name to reach their extention" so for examble, if I'm calling mike smith, I need to dial "645376484".

I stopped in a Sprint store to look at the 8830 and the rep couldn't help me find any screen that would show the typical phone pad on the screen to help with this. Does anyone know of an option we were missing?

Can you get this app on the 8830 for verizon? I saw the program on the verizon website, but it looked like it was only for the tmobile curve.

I need a program that will enable my daughter and girl friend to track me in real time as I travel. Can anyone help me. I have BB 8830 Verizon network CDMA.

I'm currently using the Storm, which I bought at full retail price. I have been pretty disappointed with it for the 3 months that I've had it.

My upgrade is ready for Verizon and I was thinking about getting the 8830.

Any opinions on the switch?

I am contemplating a Blackberry but do alot of texting. WOuld this work for me? Is it difficult to text on this phone? I also considered the Storm but heard alot of bad reviews about that one. I am now deciding between the 8830 or 8300 (or STORM). Any thoughts???

free or low cost, best suggestions for users:

Opera browser-works great to "zoom out" and quickly scroll around a page and zoom in to select or click on an open field to enter text, etc.

Download Google Maps and Gmail (if you use it) so you can easily click the icon to check mail, click the maps icon to find location, search for nearby starbucks, Best Buy, etc.

I have 8830 and it shows all my outlook folders but there are no messages in the folders. I was told there was a "fix" to correct the problem and enable the phone to show the messages in the blackberry folders, the same as in my outlook on my desktop. Does anyone have update on "upgrade" to fix this problem?

I have the 8830 for Verizon and I just looked at my battery and I noticed that there is a pink line in the middle of the white box on the battery. Does that mean I have water damage?? If so, can I get a new battery and if I encounter problems later on I'm okay?? Thanks

I'm hoping some of you Blackberry folks can help me on this one....
I have an out of state relative that has a Blackberry (not sure which model, but will check if necessary). I have tons of custom made ringtones I made, and some that I want to send to him. I have the LG Voyager phone and a texting plan (no Internet, email. etc., and do not plan to add, just for this). When I try to text him a ringtone, sending it as a "picture message", with the ringtone included as a "SOUND", it won't allow him to get it. He's saying it asking him to go online to the (?) Verizon website to even get these messages. I DO know that any text with a ringtone has to be a "picture message" from my end, but that might be creating a problem for the Blackberry ...
