This is my first Blackberry and I love it but I have some questions...

1) Sometimes my screen is brighter then at other times. The setting is set to 100% brightness but sometimes I'll look at it and its real bright, then 10 seconds later it dims a little bit. Does anyone know why?

2) When I hold down a speed dial letter, for instance "J", I hear a real quick series of beeps and then it rings the first ring on speakerphone before switching over to the ear piece. Does anyone know why it does this and if its possible to turn off?

The dimming of the screen is just an automatic setting on the phone. It automatically adjusts itself the the amount of light around the phone. I am not sure about the speed dial feature, because I don't use that feature. The message folder compiles all of your incoming messages into one central folder. With the Blackberry facing you, press and hold down the chrome colored button on the top of the unit for a split second and the display will get ultra bright. That is for use in bright sunlight or if you like to look at a bright screen. Without activity on the keypad it will get progressively dimmer over time.
The 100% brightness setting as the default is still not as bright as using that top button to give it that "brightness boost".
Press that button quickly a second time and it blacks out the display to save power until the next key is pushed on the keypad for any reason.
This holds true for the 7130e, 8703 and the 8803 for Verizon.
