We could hear the background noise clearer than her.
She went thru 4 replacement 8830 phones in So. Cal. over 30 days.
Finally the Verizon store techs and the Verizon phone support techs advised her that there was nothing they could do.
They took back the equipment reverted the account to the original status and credited the account.
She is back to her LG and its amazing to hear the difference in voice audio.
Let us know when they fix the problem and we will be back, I want one when they get the kinks worked out.

I picked up the third unit this afternoon, making sure to get in on a new shipment, and I'm experiencing the exact same problem. Note that all three of my units have come from different stores...two in Brooklyn and the original in Manhattan.
I figured out today (while on the phone with VZW customer service) that an easy way to reproduce the "echo" is to turn the volume down low. You'll barely be able to hear the other person speak, but your own voice can be heard, quite loudly, through the ear speaker.

It good to know that there isn't just one bad regional batch.
I emailed RIM and they said that their customer in this case are the Verizon Wireless Corp. and Verizon Corp are the ones to report the issue and request for correction to RIM.
In the mean time, what are alternatives for a world phone with affordable voice, text messaging, INTERNET access and email?
We hope that Verizon and RIM will be able to provide quality some day.
For the time being, we bought a "Mobal" phone for international voice calls.
