I think this phone will be a big hit. I am thinking of leaving VZW for AT&T. Can anybody really tell me which is better- CDMA vs. GSM?

GSM is often touted to be the "truest sound in wireless" due to it's technically superior audio codecs and the inability to produce static.
The only issue is, GSM to CDMA conversations (particularly Verizon users) can be pretty unbearable thanks to low volume and audio dropouts.
Otherwise, GSM sounds incredible.

I'll attest to that. Calls from GSM customers to my Verizon phone often drop out and contain a lot of static.

i agree w/da guy w/da big gun..GSM hands down kills CDMA. You get to choose whatever
GSM phone you want to use not just the ones your particular service provider has is a major plus. Also all of your info is easily transferrable through your sim card w/o having to buy any extra add ons.

- AT&T does not have the fewest dropped calls. They paid a company to take that survey in particular markets they knew would yield that result in order to legally say that line. They haven't released the results of that survey to anyone to my knowledge, either.
- T-Mobil has the #1 worst service out of all the major providers in the USA.
- "Worldwide Standard" means nothing. More technology rich countries (look at Asian countries) are building CDMA networks like mad because CDMA is better suited for the future.

The way this person has explained it, I won't be getting a CDMA phone anytime soon. From where I live, GSM is stronger and faster. I have nothing against CMDA but GSM is better (in my opinion) 😁

Depends on where you live. But if i were to go with a new cell phone provider, i wouldn't i'd stay right here with verizon.
Customer service blows away the comp. I've had at&t before, and you never knew what the next bill was going to look like. Up and Down.
I work in the Cell phone industry and had one of my stores port over 65 cingular customers to Verizon in one month! Thats just one little indirect dealer. Number speak louder than words to me.
Come to Colorado and head up the the moutains, you won't even get off the interstate and your searching for service with other carriers, but verizon is much stronger in our area.

I am with you about location being important. I am in the Detroit area and I will never go anywhere near a GSM carrier for a long time. I think the only way Cingular (AT&T) can tout that they have the fewest dropped calls is the fact that the calls are never completed in the first place. Therefore they can not be dropped. Verizon has the best coverage throughout the state (especially if you compare the high speed networks). If the phone is "crippled" by the carrier, so be it. I can make calls. The audio sounds great to me. I can backup my contacts to their server for free. If I lose my phone, I can just download my contacts to the new one for free. With GSM, if you lose your phone (with your SIM card inside), you are S.O.L.

well you can always back up your contacts on outlook and sync them with most phones.....solves your contact problem

Not exactly true. Many GSM phones can be synced up with MS Outlook so if you lose it and have to get a new phone, you can always retrieve your contacts.

Correct. The very similar V9 is HSDPA (for AT&T) and the V9m is CDMA for carriers such as Verizon.

It is available in two versions. One is running a new cool linux OS and has a 500mhz processor the other is running the standard clunky moto os and has a 300mhz processor.
The V8 model is the better one and the V9 is the lessor. So there.

Plus, if you travel outside the US, your CDMA will NOT work. GSM will work anywhere you happen to travel
