Kyocera Wild Card / Lingo / M1000

so i was lookin' 'round virgin mobiles site and found a phone called wildcard, but no picture, so i yahoo'd it and it came up with this phone. not sure on its release date.

Yes the Wild Card is the same phone, though it will have slightly different software. (hopefully anyway) VM says it will be available October 24th.

I don't see where a data cable would even plug into it. The jack on the bottom is just a standard power plug. The phone itself was designed to communicate via bluetooth, but as I stated in the other post, Virgin Mobile has disabled all but the handsfree profile. Since Kyocera designed it to communicate via bluetooth, I doubt there is any way to plug a data cable into it.

Yeah I noticed that also. I wonder when they are going to allow the bluetooth option also. I subscribed to the internet on the phone and they have preset pages you have to go to. It don't have access to yahoo messenger which is the only reason I wanted the wireless web. That sucks right. LOL.

Now that I have it in hand, I can confirm this is the same phone as Virgin Mobile's Wild Card, though the Wild Card is all black.

Virgin Mobile disabled bluetooth data/push/pull etc. The only Bluetooth their version supports is headset and handsfree. It's very disappointing.

Thats exactly why they won't allow bluetooth data. The thing is though, you don't need it. Plenty of other ways to get your own ringtones, wallpapers, and games on it.

AIM works well on the Wild Card. It comes preinstalled. You just agree to the charges, enter your screenname and password, log on and you're off. It's best to sign up for a messaging plan or unlimited messaging if you use it a lot, as IM is addictive.

To get custom wallpapers and screensavers for the WildCard on VM, email them to your phone as an attachment. It can support a jpg or gif (haven't tried png yet) of 160x116 as a wallpaper or sreensaver. If you set an animated gif as the wallpaper, it will use the first frame as a stationary wallpaper. (Which works swimmingly for my wallpaper/screensaver combo of Palpatine using Force Lighting :-D)

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, I've read on other forums that VM disabled all functionality of the data cable for the Wild Card to prevent people from snagging free ringtones.

Also, didn't know you could send picture attachments to the @vmobl.com e-mail. I thought it would just come up as a text message.
A nice trick I discovered is you can send photo AND sound (mp3 anyway) attachments to the @vmpix.com e-mail. You can save the pictures to "My pictures." However, you can only save the sound file to "My sounds." From there, you can listen to the sound file on the phone, but CANNOT assign it as a ringtone. Totally sucks.
