GPS is the real deal. Better than the Q9 Global.
I have only had the BJII for about 45 minutes now but can tell you without a doubt that the GPS chip works perfectly so far with Windows Live and Google Maps without starting or activation Telenav. You fellow Q9 owners will know what I'm talking about.
I am not going to post a review yet in the Reviews section since I have had it for less than an hour now, but I can tell you that so far, I like the hardware better on the Q9 than the BJ. The keyboard is easier to use, the casing is more solid (less fingerprints too) and I like the shortcut keys better for the voice command and speaker phone. The BJII is slicker looking that the Q9 but has a cheaper plasticky feel to it.
As far as signal, I have a 3G connection at my home right now and...

I've loaded Google Maps and tried to get it to recognize my current position but it isn't locating any satellites. How do you confirm that GPS is turned on? The manual for the BJII talks about a Bluetooth GPS receiver so I'm a little confused whether or not it's integrated in the phone. Thanks.

I can't get Google Maps to work either for my current posistion. However, I did get Windows Live Search to locate my posistion but even then in the settings menu No GPS was listed. What's the deal here?

I am retracting what I said about the GPS being better in this unit than the Q9. I was disappointed with the BJ2 for various reasons; build quality, keyboard not as good as Q9; signal quality not anywhere near as good; screen not as sharp; battery life is not good compared to Q which is EXCELLENT.. etc.
I took it back and swapped out my Q9 and the GPS works great now. I did have to activate Telenav once to get Live and Google Maps to work but now the GPS signal on all three of those apps locks on very quickly.
I'm sticking with the Q9.

How did you get the GPS to work with Google Maps on the BJII the first time? I tried using the orignial Google Maps application and the new 2.0 version they released today and still could not get Google to track my location. Thanks

Make sure you are outside or in the car. If I'm in the car, i leave it on the dash till gps connects. It can take a minute or three, normal for a cold start.
Go to menu and choose "use gps"
I like satellite view.
I think windows live is much more appealing, maps keep up better.

So does GPS work with Google Maps? If not I may just stick with my BB8820 and keep replacing it until the bugs are worked out.
