Cell phone life expectancy?

I would love to know why we as consumers seem to accept the fact that:
1. All cell phone service is over-priced
2. Service quality is poor
3. Cell phones work well for 9 - 10 months only.
4. Cell phones break with-in a year .
5. Wireless contracts last a min. of one year.
If Verizon wireless had no forced contracts ie 1-2 years. Verizon would not keep customers. When are we going to wake up and demand better service?

I'm not sure what phones you have, but the two phones I owned before this one lasted me over three years each (one was Samsung and the other was a Nokia...the CHEAPIE Nokia at that).

The phone I have now, I've had for a year.

Also, if you check Consumer Reports and other like publications, you'll find that VZW has the highest customer satisfaction of all the carriers.

Not sure why your phones and service are so bad.

I'm not a VZW employee, just a satisfied customer!

I have had my vx4400 for 3 years before I upgraded to a vx9800 and only because i wanted the MP3 player on the phone. The other one still works fine and I'm going to keep for a back up. BUT service I do kind of know what your talking about I live in bristol CT and there are stops all around town where my cell phone drops calls like its it job but for the most part I like verizon. And I will admit that getting help on the phone from verizon isnt no freakin' night in France, but its better then cingualer.

Phone life, service, service plans.
I'm happy enough to be looking for another
4400, 4 years and counting with the first phone going strong. I'm glad VZW doesn't cover the thing anymore, EBay does a better job and isn't trying to shove a contract down your throat ever time you visit them.
You would think VZW would give their old customers a break but... go figure!
I don't have a service plan "per se" and the $ hit will most likely stay that way until the FCC streightens out its act (I'm not holding my breath BTW) or VZW quits beating up their clients with contract demands.
I'm betting VZW, et al, will get the FCC to allow them to discontinue service unless (we) have a contract, sometime in the future.
Money, Money, Money.
