There is no need to jump through hoops to get ring tones on a smart phone.
Just go to the Market place and download a program called "Ringdroid". It lets you take any mp3 on your phone or SD card and crop it down and save it as a ring tone.
And yes, sometimes these smart phones can make us all feel a little dumb. 🙂

very much appreciated! thanks! 😎

You dont even have to download anything. The phone has its own ringtone maker. Just go to any song and choose "menu" and then it will allow you to make your own ringtone and place... No MOre buying ringtones!!

You can also attach and email mp3 ringtones to your Verizon number. You have to email them to (your 7-digit number)@VZWPix.com. I was ablt to make this work, but I am unable to assign a ringtone to a specific contact/caller, which I have been able to do with every "dumb" VZW phone, be it LG or Moto, that I have used for the last 5 years. So much for progress!

see my post below - you approach via Music, not via People, THEN your selection is added to the Ringtones list and is available for other use.

I was unable to download MP3's directly from Amazon; had to download to computer first, but then:
1. You just plug the HTC into a computer via the included micro-USB cable and the HTC shows as drive D (micro-SD) and E (HTC) on my laptop. You can copy the downloaded folders to the MP3 folder on the HTC. No need to remove the cover and SD card.
2. Lacoste90210 (Thank you!) is right. The included MP3 editor works great for ringtones. First, you select the MP3 in the Music player, then hit Menu and get the editor. It allows you to select begin/end points for a section of any MP3 AND then choose a Contact for whom it will be a ringtone - doing so adds it to the Ringtone inventory so it can be used elsewhere.
