This is an update from a previous post. I used the settings suggested by pepsijunky. Before I made the change, the battery went from 100% to 58% overnight in "sleep" mode in 7 hours. Now with his settings it went from 100 to 84 in the same 7 hour period, so big thanks to pepsijunky for passing that info along. Thanks bro! Now if you can just solve my reception problems id be a happy camper. Thanks everyone

very similar results for me! and the whole reception thing? the best i've ever had with this phone is 2 bars.
...
Interesting. 2 bars only? that doesnt sound good for us. It might be me but i seem to get a better signal with the wifi turned off, however whenever i go into settings to turn the wifi off,it comes back on. Why is that. Let me know if you have any of the same experiences.

Just remember that bars Don't always mean better service. That is a display issue more than anything. As long as you can make and maintain calls, it doesnt matter how many bars you have with a CDMA phone.
Did you see my message about improving sound quality? Not sure if it works on the incredible, but it was insanely helpful on the droid
...
No actually i must have missed that. I value your opinion so of course i would like to read that. Where is it

Like I said, this might not work because I've only ever done it on Droids/dumbphones. Hopefully it works here as well.
From your phone app, dial ##program and hit send
If it asks you for a security number do 000000
Then look for VOCODE and see if there is an ERVC-B (spelling might be off) select that. Then exit out of the program. Your phone should reset.
DO NOT mess with the other settings. This is a base level menu for your phone, and messing with other settings could really mess it up unless you know what the functions do.

what exactly will this do? im guessing amplify the signal? I remember in the old days i could access the service menu on nokia phones and go in and bump up the signal strength. Doing that would lessen the battery life. i remember it was #12345# then nam 1 and that got you in. oh the simpler days.....

It changes how the device encodes the signal. the -b is the second revision of the codec and helps make phonecalls clearer because it's a better code (kind of like.. going from a shoddy WMA file to a high quality MP3)
...
ok got it now since im a worrier(spelling)at heart,if i select b and it doesnt work can i go back and restore it to the default setting?

Yep. Just follow the same process and restore it.

that wasnt there what was there was: 1x EV DO data parameters-Display group--Feature settings--Nam CDMA settings--NAM general and Phone directory grouping
...
It's in there you have to go into the "nam cdma settings" scroll down the list and then select " prefered voice service option for home"-- " home origination" and --"roaming" --there's 3 options and they should be on ERVC...just select each of those options change it to ERVC-B.. Select MENU and save the changes. i had problems with the call quality and this cleared it right up. 🙂 let me kno if you have anymore questions.
...
Thanks i will give it a try. Should i cycle the phone after i do it?
...
after you save it the phone automaticaly reboots and after that happens you should be good to go
...
glad i asked cause i forgot to save the changes.I did it but i still have the same reception, between 0 and 1 bars. makes me mad cos i love this phone and other verizon phones i have had in this same location have 5 bars. I dont get it.
...
it doesnt actually change the bars..the bars don't have anything to do with the call quality. Just try makeing a call it should be clearer now. The reception "bars issue" ive found it is just a software issue. The true reception should be displayed in your settings--select about phone, then network that will show you what dbm levle your connected at . Me and my friend tested it against his moto droid. We both drove around town and his phone said he had more bars but our network connecton was the same on both the droid and incredible. As far as data goes i havent dropped off 3g once..even with 0 bars cause thats not the true reception the phone is getting. hope that helps 🙂
...
mine is -103 how is that?
...
Again that just depends... are you getting 103 everywhere or is it just in one spot( like ur office or bathroom ect)? are you still getting 3G? have you compared it to other phones? again on a phone like the moto droid in the same location it might show 3-4 bars where the incredible shows 1-2 but the dbms are the same on both ( at least in all my tests). If you compare phones and the dbm is drasticaly different then its probably the phone. If thats the case id take it back and get a new one, cause in all the tests ive done you should be pulling about the same signal.
...
Excellent, glad it's working!
Of course, downloading the app "Advanced Task Killer" is always a huge help to kill all of your running apps.
My reception has also been a little suspect. Not sure what to think about that.
