Does it really make sense?
Does it make sense that the android designers created a system that unless you were smart enough to download some type of "task killer",or that you literally turn off every app immediately after using it,that its going to continue runing forever? I just cant believe that it was meant to operate like that. Is there some kind of internal timer that eventually shuts them down i'm missing? I find myself using task killer everytime i'm done using an app, that to me doesnt make sense.

Android, especially 2.x versions of android (2.1 even more so) is actually pretty efficient when it comes to memory management.
Using the task killer all the time will decrease both performance and battery life.
Remember Steve's big thing about how iphone multitasking would be "smart" multitasking?
He's basically copying android and adding some eye candy.
How multi tasking works for android is that if a program isn't in use,(aka in the background) it will be put in a kind of "stasis," which consumes very little energy or memory, it just saves where you were in that app (website, screen, etc). Thanks Menno, this was very helpful. As a matter of fact i do use the task killer a lot. I have become crazy with it using it to close an app everytime I finish with one. I will definitely back off using it so often and rely instead on the Android system.

I, too, have stopped using it based on Menno's message...we'll see how things go. 🙂 I did not unistall...I just unchecked having it load up at Startup and rebooted. I was never a huge user of it...just every now and then...but we'll see how battery life is affected. Thanks Menno. 🙂

I have the taskiller widget which i use a lot, upon checking my battery use, it's at 3% taskiller. is that a lot? the only other non default program is brower at 11%. Display is 70% so obviously that is the main culprit.

Wow 70%? that seems very high. Most people ive read have been below 5%. Mine is usually 3%. you should check into that
