i know a person, totally blind, who purchased this phone specifically because of the touted text to speech caller id. problem is, he doesn't know how to activate the feature. user guide is silent on the feature, and vzw and lg tech support have been no help as of yet. help please.

I think one way to get this is to activate driving mode. Push and hold the lower side button while the phone is closed or go to Menu, 7, 5. Or you can set the phone so you get audio response whenever you open the phone. (Menu, 7, 4, 1) Or else you can just turn on Voice Alerts. (Menu, 7, 4, 2)
