voice mail
I have entered my phone number in the voice mail area of the phone..this means that I can press and hold the one(1) key to access my voice mail without using airtime because I have unlimited in network calling.....as opposed to dialing *86...which uses minutes....now for the question....When you press and hold the envelope key (lower part of navigation key) it dials your voice mail as well only it uses *86 to dial....asked LG and they said when i change my number in the voice mail area it should work for both buttons...said to take back to verizon...did that and then the envelope button dialed my voice mail number (my phone number)....now few hours later it is back to dialing *86....arrggghhh....cant believe this new phone is doing this too....

absolutely...you hit menu, then 3 (messages), then 6 (msg settings), then 8 (edit voice mailbox#)...then just clear what is there, probably *86 and type your cell number in there....I also put in a pause and my password at the end so it goes right to my messages without having to enter the password after voice mail answers.....Good Luck

Thanks, Sandenscot - I figured out myself earlier today how to change the VM number at (1) - Before that, I added my cell number to one of the speed dials and followed the prompts, adding pauses (as you did) to get right to my messages. But I would like to keep using VM at the normal place. I have struggled trying to figure out how to add the pauses when editing the VM. Again, can you help?

i think i can help: when editing your vm, if you change the setting from "123" (see this in the bottom right corner of screen) by hitting the right soft key, to "abc", then the '8' key (for "T") that will add a "timed (2 seconds) pause. let me know if this works for you.

could you please tell me how you inserted a pause after your cell number? i was able to enter my cell number for vm instead of *86, but then there is no option to allow me to enter a pause. thanks.

sure, when you in the screen where you entered the phone number, select the right soft key, and change 123 to abc then enter T or P depending on what kind of pause you want...with Verizon a T works fine, if you use the P then the phone waits for you to hit the soft key to enter the password.....this is only necessary with calls where the phone rings multiple times....calling voice mail the phone never rings so the T works fine....I dont know if you know what I mean...with the T whatever follows is sent after a 2 second pause....and if you call your home answering machine for example, the password is sent long before the phone answers....hope that makes sense

Thanks to both of you. It worked just fine. I had to add 3 T's (do they HAVE to be capital T?) before it worked, but it works fine now. Are we sure that when we are "in-network" and calling our own phone, that the regular air time does not apply?

that is what the verizon people tell me...now for the big HOWEVER, my first verizon bill (just converted from ATT) on the last page it says under voice mail retrieval, that beginning april 2004 "accessing your voice mailbox from your wireless phone will decrement your general airtime allowance minutes"..blah blah....so they may be catching on....it also says in network/mobile to mobile minutes do not apply to voice mail retrievals....check out your most recent bill....they always find ways to get you...so perhaps the *86 will not matter eventually!!! hope that helps

Wow! I have just made 4 separate calls to Verizon to try to figure this thing out (VM retrieval - mobile to mobile or Peak minutes) and got 2 for mobile/mobile and 2 for Peak!! The last one checked a recent bill of mine and said I was charged for peak minutes.

They have no clue.....I call Canada alot and I have got ten people at verizon who say that it is part of my america's choice plan ("you can call puerto rico, canada and the virgin islands")and ten who say it is extra....I have no clue until I get my first bill.....so what you say does not suprise me.
