BlackBerry Torch 9850
Blackberry to iPhone impressions
Pros:
Siri is cool and almost a smart@ss at times. Best voice recognition system out there but thats not saying much because I never thought much of these systems
-no crashes, some momentary freezes, seamless and fluid device
-fun device for the masses that can make everyday life easier and ...yea...that word again...fun
cons:
-email...email...email
Anyone know you can't have iPhone and a desktop email clients running POP3 at the same time without issues? If both are set to check every few minutes or so, one of them will lock you out and not retrieve email. Outlook on my desktop is full of error codes. A...

Thanks. Excellent, practical thoughts. I was thinking about jumping ship to become an Idweeb, but will wait for a while. Still running my Storm 1 and have yet to see how an Iphone, or even a Torch 9850, would be enough of an improvement to justify the uprgrade cost.
I actually think the iPhone is an excellent product for the masses. It will probably work well for most people, but not all I am afraid. It's an exciting, fun phone that makes you want to use it, but...
For me, smartphones have to be for my business first. Blackberries have the advantage here still because they take a no nonsense approach to email/sms/ and messaging.
iPhones make it enjoyable to do these things but I am finding out it is not as efficient for business.
Build quality looked pretty good. At least when new I would never have known about a plastic type screen.
Surepress should not have been given up on. If you can get used to life without it the 9850 is familiar. You can easily learn it if you are a Storm user or "survivor" 🤣
It's faster, has lots of improvements to the whole experience. The increased real estates a plus. The keyboard in landscape mode is where I saw a huge difference. It's spread out more and actually threw off my typing.
The keys at the bottom look a little funky but Storm 2 with the early builds had issues with the integrated keys working properly. I li...

I noticed that the Iphone calendar only allows a reminder up to 2 days in advance. I usually give myself a 1-week reminder on distant calendar appointments on my BB. Do you know if there is a way to alter that limitation on the Iphone?

Hope this helps!
Funny, you mentioned the original Storm keys. I, too, preferred them to the Storm2....more travel and consistency. I tried the 9850 and was disappointed in the form factor and material components. When you become accustomed to metal & glass, its almost feels like going from an Infiniti to a Kia. No offense to Kia owners but its not my style.
You made mention of the email client. I am virtually a "prisoner" to pushed email. My business is committed to real time commun...

Surepress was either slammed or coveted by those that had Storms. If they had figured out how to turn it off and on it would have made more people happy. I liked it. It kept me from making mistakes.
All of us have to move to something else at some point I guess. I didn't find the 9850 touch screen any more hypersensitive than the iPhones. Huge adjustment still. Things open and get swiped you don't want sometimes.
Long live the Storm 😁
RIM will release a 4" screen someday....BY that time, your Iphone will be residing in ICloud Heaven and people will be talking on their keychain phones... 🙄

I am told Steve Jobs was involved heavily in the iPhone 5. Rumors suggest the 4" screen and probably LTE...yada yada..yada...
1st quarter for QNX phones I hear? If I have to wait a friggen year for a full touch screen QNX phone, i'll be picketing in front of RIMs headquarters in Canada saying the same things wall street protesters are probably saying 🤣
One of the two co-idiots that run RIM (to be truthful, run it into the ground), pronounced an email client on the crapware Playbook, not ready for prime-time monstrosity they released. 60 days they said. What is it 6,7 months or more now? NO email client!!!
You will not see QNX before the Houston A...

My fling with Siri and the phone she occupies taught me a lot 🤣 Apple is no Blackberry and Blackberry is no Apple. I was actually apologizing on the phone for returning this. Frantic people everywhere trying to get their hands on iPhones everywhere and I don't want mine 😳 I am sure half the world thinks I am nuts for liking crackberries so much.
The rep of the other end of the phone admitted that Apple fruit phones aren't his cup of tea, but declined to say what he liked. I am guessing Android 🤣
I am not waiting 2 years for QNX. If I have to upgrade early I will do it 😁
The Storm 9550 is not on deck as a backup device 😢
Will be waiting to hear your thoughts on the 9850 after you've had some time with it. I did look at one at a Verizon store. The guy behind the counter discouraged me from looking at it, saying that "it had some issues." He pointed me to a Bold. I told him the small screen and crude little keyboard buttons didn't do anything for me, and left with my old Storm 1.

It may very well have had some issues. Verizon just released an official OS update yesterday with a lot of bug fixes. The Bold got an official OS update too with big red. I am sure there are all sorts of hybrid OS's floating around on Crackberry also.
I know what you mean. ts harder for me to live with a phone with ...

As soon as it becomes obsolete in about 6 months
You think that long? 🤣
I am already going from Siri to some 10 year old voice recognition program on BB, 1080P and 8mp camera from the iPhone to 720p and 5mp and from an OS that dates back to 2007 to one that predates the dinosaurs.
I am ready to go here! 😁 My lovable piece of crap is being delivered today. I am so excited 😁
Hey, Nuance voice recognition was also featured on Alexander Graham Bell's handset so delight in that cutting-edge technology. The camera has been improved. Lag time does not allow you to buy the morning papers while you wait for that click.
Your gonna love the "bleeding fields" whereby each screen shows partial words from the previous screen. "ities" (favorite's) and "nloads" (downloads). Its like a Wheel of Fortune game.
RIM has done some well-timed precious things such as when they came out with the Storm2....2days after the 5.0 update, after m...

Congrats on your return to masochism-land. I was wrong about the form-factor. RIM is not using Fisher-Price plastic on that tough as nails under 4" screen. Its either Hasbro or Mattel.
