Backlight goes off when open...help!!!

Does anybody know or have happened where the backlight will only work when the flip is half-open. That is, when I fully open my phone the backlight turns off. Please help...thanks.

If you go to Setup then Display and into Backlight you can change the options for both LCD and Keypad to Folder Open, meaning that they would be on as long as the flip is open. This will drain the battery faster though.
