No there is not....and there are currently no plans for new firmware

New firmware update came out yesterday, XJ06. You can get it at your local Verizon Wireless store. Takes about 30-45 minutes.
It is free.

Afraid not. Firmware updates are ALWAYS done in stores, that way they can do any diagnostics on the phone before applying the firmware update.
All the cellphone carriers do their firmware updates in the stores.

Does anyone know what *exactly* is changed in the firmware update? I've heard that pictures look better and that the call log/missed calls bug is fixed... Anything else that people have noticed? Thanks.

Some bugs in Get It Now are fixed. I heard they also fixed some hand free kit control and audio quality stuffs too.

I just got the new XJ06 firmware this weekend, but it did not fix the call log bug. It still shows some calls as "call waiting" and puts the call into "missed calls" also.

Can anyone tell me what the firmware update changes? Does it affect the use with Data Pilot? Does it affect your ability to DL pictures or load ring tones with the computer?

Went to a third store (first store - "computer broken", second store - "there is no update")
they said they had the update, but don't use it because it is "bad".
it screws up "a key"
I am going to beat this to death with customer service

I also had to "beat up" customer service just to get them to get the damned download to the stores - Samsung said that THEY (Samsung) had had theupdate out for TWO MONTHS (October '04) before I started bugging Verizon to get the update....

Why do you guys even want this update? My phone works just fine without it, aside from the occasional caller ID screw-up, which the update apparently doesn't even fix... Shouldn't you leave well enough alone, at least until a better update comes out that actually *improves* the phone in a noticeable way?

I have the XJ06 firmware and I haven't figured out what it fixed. The call log is still messed up.

The call log IS fixed. According to Samsung, the "missing key" is actually a bug on the STORE TECH's SIDE, NOT Samsung.
Samsung states that their instructions tell the techs at the Verizon Wireless stores that they MUST do a RESET PHONE AFTER INSTALLING THE UPDATE!!!
Most of the techs are NOT doing this, so most of the bug fixes in the update are not taking.
To do the reset, go to Menu, Setup, Security, Reset Phone. You WILL have to reset your security code and ringers (personalized ones), but NO, repeat NO, data is erased from the phone. All your downloads and phone numbers will STILL be there.
BTW, battery life and signal meter seem much improved on my phone after I did the RESET PHONE as instructed by Samsung (steps above...

I did the firmware update about 2 weeks ago and I doubt Verizon ever resetted the phone. Nice to know that they care :-) ... anyways, I just resetted my a670 and everything went well.

When you say that signal strength and battery life meters seem much improved, what do you mean. Also, does the software update improve anything else on the phone besides the call log?

I meant that they seem to be more accurate.
I don't know what all the bug fixes are, but some of them are IM'ing (AIM comes out for this phone soon I believe, hence that fix), browser, Get It Now, but there are nearly 100 bug fixes in this update.

The Verizon that i work at said that they dont' have the software update yet. Which store did you go to get it? So we will be able to get aim our phones soon? What do they fix with Get It Now?

ALL the Verizon stores should have it, it may be on the computers but NOT in your hard copy list of updates. You need to have your techs check the computers they use to flash the phones. If not, then you need to get it as per Verizon's contract with Samsung.
I went to one of the Verizon Wireless stores in Baltimore, MD, for the update. All the stores in DC, MD, VA, NY have the updates as per Verizon Customer Service.
I don't know when we will get AIM, and I do not know what all the fixes are in Get It Now, just that the GIN version changed after getting the updates.

You said before that when they perform the update to the phone that none of your personal information is lost correct. All of my ringers, pictures and picture ID's would still be there. I mean the call log problem isn't that big of a problem but i say hey if they're going to fix it, let them fix. it. Why dont' you think our phone doesn't get aim on it though not that i really care im just curious.

I have the new software (XJ06) and I reset my phone, and I am STILL getting the caller ID bug. I just received a call about half an hour ago, and sure enough, it shows up as two separate calls - one incoming "call waiting" call, and one missed call - from the same person. This is such an annoying bug! Shame on Samsung for letting the phone out with this problem, and for not fixing it with this software update!

I agree the call log is NOT fixed. I have the XJ06 firmware and I reset the phone too. I have the same problem as you...a missed call and an incoming call listed as "call waiting" from the same caller. This is getting annoying.

Might be a bug in the cell phone towers - might be sending the phone TWO signals about incoming phone calls; i.e., the phone thinks there are TWO phone calls coming in at the same time when there is only ONE call, the phone gets confused by the screwed up signal, and dumps one call in favor of the other one (even though they are both the same single caller) due to signal overload.
