Does anyone know how to use different ringtones for different addresses in my address book? Is it even possible with the V220?

Thanks for your help.

What you need to do is edit each contact for which you want to have a special ringtone. Access them in the phonebook, edit entry, select the "Store to" feature - choose "Store to PHONE", as what you want to do won't work on numbers that are stored to SIM. After verifying that the number is stored to phone, then select "Ringer ID's". Set this to "on". Once turning "Ringer ID's" on, you will be taken to a ringtone selection screen. Whichever ringtone you select will be the ringtone you hear when you receive a call from someone at that phone number. Hope this helps! 🙂

I've just sent mine up but someone just sent me a text message and it played the long tune that I've set up for ringer id. On my previous phone the ringer id only played for an actual call not SMS as well. Is there any way of stopping the ringer id on SMS? I just want a short doorbell noise, not a tune.

I've just had a reply from Motorola saying that there isn't any way of making it play different ringtones for calls and SMS, so in my view the ringer id feature is totally useless because you won't be able to distinguish a call from a text message if you're using the ringer id feature.

You can just go to your audio settings and change the ringtone for sms. The default setting might be to have the same tone for all functions, but you can adjust it in your audio settings. Press Menu -> Settings -> Audio ..
Then check your audio settings. If you set it to loud, then check the loud settings for IM and Text Messages.

I haven't got 'Audio' in my Settings menu.

If it's not set as "Audio," then check for "Ring Styles" or something of that nature. It could be something like that or "profile" or something that has to do with the sound settings. I think different carriers might have it set using different names in the firmware.

Unless the feature was disabled on your particular V220, then the ringtones for sms and voicemail, etc. can be changed. I don't see why that would be disabled but there's a chance of it happening. My V220 came with the video playback and voice records disabled. You have to edit the seems to re-enable locked functions, but that falls into hacking territory.
