I've had this phone for a few days and noticed that the earpiece sound quality is somewhat tinny and distorted at all volume levels except the lowest level. I had VZ tech support look at it. They said that it was normal and that they all sound this way. I noticed my wife's VX6100 sounds a lot better. I still have 12 days left on my 15 days so, before I take the phone back I wanted to find out if this is normal for the VX8000. Anyone else have this problem? How does your earpiece sound compared to other phones?

I couldn't believe how tinny and harsh the VX8000 earpiece was. I tried 2 phones, the ones in the stores and all were the same. If you talk on it for any length of time, it actually starts to hurt. If you're noticing this, I would not keep the phone.
It's really too bad; the phone has nice features and a great speakerphone.

Is it then the phone or the earpiece? (I've yet to find any flaws with mine).

You're probably just used to phones that sound like that. 😢
...
Not really.
I've had the Samsung SCH-A310 before this (what an ugprade!), and the sound quality on it's comparable to the VX8000. (Now, are we talking about the earpiece, i.e. the top-flip speaker, or the ear-bud? I've noticed no difference between those two, and I've noticed no difference between this phone and others I've used).

The earphone on my wife's 8000 was okay, but not terrific. Then I noticed there is a tiny (and I do mean tiny), barely visible piece of protective plastic coating over the earpiece. Once removed, the earpiece quality improved dramatically.

It's kind of a trade off. On the downside the phone does sound harsh. On the upside I can still hear conversations with loud background noises(airport flight ramp) more so than any other phone I've used. There are times when the person on the other end speaks up for a moment, and I have to pull the phone away from my ear because it does hurt. Otherwise I like the phone. I don't normally use an ear bud, but I may have to go that route to keep the phone and my hearing.

Thank you! I just got mine today and with my first call, it was the first thing i noticed. I even commented to the person i was talking to tht it sounded TINNY! how funny to see someone else say that. I wonder if the 8100 will have improved sound? i can still take it back on july 11 to get it!

I hope the 8100 has improved sound quality. With all the things a cellphone does, making and receiving calls is the most important. I did go to the Verizon store and compared my phone with other 8000's, and they all sounded exactly the same. The sound doesn't become harsh until I turn the volume up to the louder settings. The tinniest sound comes from the phone's own voice prompt when I activate the voice dialing. After several weeks now, I'm starting to get used to it. Good luck with the 8100

i tried the 8100,maybe because it's the first batch, but IMO the earpiece is worse, again just my opinion or i got messed up ears LOL

Thanks for the imput. I think I'll stay away from the 8100 until they get some of it's other problems worked out.
