VX8000 "Straight-Through" Data Cable
Does anyone know where I can purchase a cable for the vx8000 that is a straight-through USB cable, preferably from a store such as like Best Buy or something?
I had purchased a cable a while ago and it works to transfer data to/from the phone only - it won't let me use the phone as a modem b/c it's a serial to USB cable (the cable with a little black box in the middle of it). The second cable i purchased from an online store; they displayed the straight through cable but sent me the serial - usb cable instead and aren't returning my e-mails or anything. But I still want a straight-through cable. I've read that a lot of people have purchased these types of cables off of ebay, but i'd rather purchase it from a place where I can physically...

Does anyone know where I can get a straight through cable from other than ebay? I'm still trying to get this phone to work as a modem but have not had any luck. The companies that I've tried to purchase the cable from send me the usb-serial cables only (even when their site displays the correct cable). So I'm not sure where to get one from.

I have not had much luck with my third party cable.
I got the driver and loaded it up, it recognizes the driver ok, but no phone. No way to transfer data. I'm more than a little frusterated. How did you make yours work? Did you buy the version with software? I did not, and am wondering if the reason I am having issues is that the 'USB' cable is actually a serial to USB conversion (thats what the box is for) and it doesn't plug and play well. I think that the software is a must to communicate with the phone, whereas I USB would show up as an external storage device. ( thats what I assumed would happen)
Thanks for your help.

Well I can't get my phone to operate as a modem. My cable is the USB - Serial converter cable. I got datapilot and everything works with it except the internet connection manager application. So I don't know why it won't work. I may end up just calling tech support b/c I've kinda given up. I saw a straight through cable on ebay, but I just didn't feel like getting it yet. I got another cable off a website and they sent me the usb serial cable even though the picture was of the straight through cable. I e-mailed them and they kept telling me that it should work, etc. and so finally I ended paying to ship it back to them and they only gave me a store credit - didn't actually refund my money. I'm never shopping there again. But overall...

Now when you use that Verizon software/cable, do you connect using the EVDO network at high speed or is it low speed? I talked to a Verizon rep and they said that their data kits would allow the phone to be used as a modem and place a data call over the wireless network - operating like a 56k modem. I think it's called Quick 2 net or something.

Also, I've seen a image on my phone twice now which I haven't be able to show again (intentionally). A blue screen has appeared after I use Mobile Web. The screen states:
1x EVDO Data
Time: 0:00:00
Send: (signal strength bar)
Receive: (signal strength bar)
the words might be a little bit different, but overall it means the same thing. I've only seen this twice. And it's only happened when I've pressed something like Tunes Shows and it connects and I press clear to exit. Once I exit, it'll say "goodbye" and if I press OK this screen will appear saying 1x EVDO. However, I've not been able to intentionally reproduce this message (it just appeared again once) and I don't know what it means - it keeps saying that my time is 0:00:...

Where do i get the applications? Especially interested in 'datapilot'. Does it work with serial to usb cable (the one with the black box). And is there a different cable available that works better? The cable i have is 1 cable with a black box in the middle. I say it is serial to usb only because that is how Windows XP sees it in device manager.

go to www.susteen.com. That's where the datapilot software site is located. it comes with a USB -Serial cable. As far as I've heard, the straight-through data cable works better than the USB-Serial Cable.
