Address book / Speed dial

dukescotts

One of the things that has kept me from getting a Samsung is the way it handles the address book and speed dials. I'm hoping the 6100 does things differently. Appreciate any input.

In the Samsung address book, you can't have the same phone # assigned to more than one person. That's a real pain if you have multiple contacts at the same company.

Even more annoying in my mind, you can't create multiple speed dials for the same contact. In other words, I can't have my wife's work and mobile numbers both on a speed dial unless I create seperate contacts.

Any comments?

Thanks.

No guarantee, I did not get my 6100 yet...

As a rule the LG Phonebook on recent phones allows setting multiple phone numbers to one name and then allows you to assign a speed dial number to each of those phone numbers... And you can use the same phone number attached to as many names as you like...

Again, I won't know for sure until I get my 6100, but LG tends to be very consistent with how their phones work... (It's nice)

Does it have vibrate then ring? A VW dude told me that it should, like all of the other LG phones that he'd sold (although my wife's 3200 doesn't...)

I don't think so... it has "Manner Mode" which works like you wife's vx3200 and my wife's vx4500... no sounds when in vibrate mode...

Maybe somebody who already got the phone can tell us for sure...

I have a 3200 for my second line and it does have vibrate then ring functionality and so is the 6100 (my primary phone). You need to go to the volume menu, and set the volume to high, then press your up arrow key again, it will set it to vibrate then ring.

Oh, I get it. So the only way to have vibrate and then ring is to have the volume on full? I wished it worked like my old Kyocera; vibrate and then ring at any volume.

Better than nothing, I guess. Thanks for the info.

YOU ARE SOOOOO RIGHT...!!!

The vx4500 has vibrate and ring too, exactly as you state...

One point... after testing (at least on the 4500) it is "Vibrate & Ring" simultaneous, not "Vibrate first THEN Ring"...

Note to self: Read manuals more carefully...!!!

The 6100 will do both simultaneous as well.

Okay, guys, quit splitting hair on me. All I was trying to tell the person originally posted the question is that the 3200 and 6100 will vibrate & ring if you set it. Since I don't use this functionality on my 6100 phone, and my spouse use it on her 3200, I really don't know whether it vibrate & ring or vibrate first then ring. All I know is it work.

Sorry... No hair splitting intended...

Just that that would be a very different feature...

Like if you were in a meeting and you were expecting an important call (your wife is nine months and due any minute) you could set the for for vibrate THEN ring so you would be sure to not miss the call, even if you did end up disturbing the meeting... maybe the phone could vibrate 3 times and then if not answered ring 3 time before Vmail took over...

Just a thought...

"... maybe the phone could vibrate 3 times and then if not answered ring 3 time before Vmail took over..."

Yup, this is the way my Kyocera worked, and in your exact scenario (minus the baby thing. I did that a few years back 😉 ) Is one of the reasons why I want this feature. However, since it's vibrate & ring at the same time, it's note really helpful to me.

Thanks for all of the input, and sorry for taking this thread off topic 🤭

With a little bit of work you could make your own ringtones. I've done it with my 6000. I have one ringtone that uses a song that fades in and it accomplishes the same thing.

Yah...

You could use a ring tone that deliberately had NO sound for 9 seconds... That would be easy to create... Then you could just set that ringtone temporarily with you "Vibrate AND Ring" and it would become a "Vibrate THEN Ring"...

Great Idea...
