some quick questions about the LG 6100

Hello,

I've been using a Samsung e105 (t-mobile), and have some reception problem (could be just where I live). I'm thinking about the LG VX6100, but have a couple of questions. Hope someone could give me the answer:

1) I've been told the 6100 is a tri-mode phone. Does this mean that the reception is going to be much, much better? My Samsung e105 barely works inside my house, and it often doesn't work in my room (downstairs)!

2) I'm told that the LG 6100 can accommodate a USB cable. Does this mean that I can just use a regular USB cable to hook the phone up to my desktop or laptop, and transfer pictures (which I take) and music files (which I create) to use as wall papers and ringers for the phone?

Thanks a bunch.

Answers:

1) Reception is based mostly on ur proximity to a cell tower. Verizon has more cell towers than t-mobile, so u'll have a better chance of getting a signal if u switch. Best thing is to ask people who visit u if they get a signal and who they use for service. Tri-mode means u can use the analog towers that are deployed in remote areas. Analog signals sucks-up serious power so u'd not want to rely on analog on a regular basis.

2) The data cable is for sync'ing contacts and appointments, not pix and tonez, you need to use GetItNow to transfer those.

Thank you for your reply. Your response actually leads me to some more questions. I hope you (or others) don't mind helping me with these questions again:

1) My room is downstairs, surrounded by a kitchen, a garage, a living room, and several closet. When I take my t-mobile phone upstairs, it has almost full signal again. I talked to a Verizon salesman about this, and he said Verizon uses a different technology (CDMA), which will make signal go through walls better. Is this correct? When I go to school, I could use my t-mobile phone without problems in my office, which is located in the middle of a 6-story building. This is why things are confusing to me :-(

I have tried some of my friends' phones, and t-mobile, Cingular, and ATT&T are...

1) It is true that CDMA (which Verizon uses is different that what T-Mobile uses. Whether or not it is better at passing through walls in a house -- I don't know.

2) Verizon would like you to update photos and ringtones over the air using their services. With certain aftermarket tools, you can use a cable and software to get photos and ringtones from a PC to your phone. You can also sync your calendar and contacts from a PC. www.datapilot.com is one tool that'll move data to and from your phone. There is an Open Source tool under development called BitPim that might support the 6100 sometime in the next couple of months.

Thanks for your reply.

You mentioned that one could use a cable and software to get photos and ringtones from a PC to the LG 6100 with certain "aftermarket tools". Could you elaborate more on this? I'm not sure I understand this part. I know I could download additional wallpapers and ringtones using Verizon services, but I really prefer using photos and ringtons that only I have (things that I create myself :-)

Thank you.

Take a look at the following Web sites. These are two products that can move pictures and ringtones between your PC and your telephone.

Support is not yet available for the LG VX6100, but will probably come within the next few months, or might even work with the existing configuration for the LG VX6000.
