Question for 'TMBS' on Verizon Reception in the Milw. Area

Hi. I'm trying to get and keep a 6100. My issue is with signal strength. Seems as though you have extensive experience with various models (at least the 6100 and 9900).

I'm having reception issues in my office building (very near I-94 in Pewaukee) and while inside my home (city of Waukesha).

I can force mode to 'Cell Only' and I get decent reception-nothing great but at least the phone is usable.

I'm wondering what your experience is. Which phone(s) do you use and do you leave them on 'auto' or do you force them to Cell only also? Are there any (except the 3200, gotta have an external display) that can be comfortably left in auto mode full time?

Many thanks in advance!

Mike

If the 6100 can not be used reliably, in the normal (auto) mode, at your location then it is unlikely that any other phone could be either... at least on Verizon primary (PCS)service...

When you go to "Cell Only" mode you are forcing the phone to use the US Cellular network which is the Verizon "Extended Network" in our area...

You could try a CDM9900, it never shows as many "Bars" on its signal strength indicator as an LG does, but it often has clear solid service when it is showing "No Bars"... It also has an extendable antenna and is easy to force to the "Cell Only" mode...

In the Milwaukee area I usually keep my phone forced over to using the US Cellular network... it is the 800MHz band which has better penetrating abilities the...

Thanks much for confirming what I thought was the case.

Hmmm, maybe I'll have to look into the 9900. Is there something akin to BitPim for the 9900? And will the 9900 play .mp3?

Thanks much for your assistance.

Yes... but it is still available by what Verizon calls "Direct Fulfillment"... and in some Zip Codes it can still be ordered on the Internet... (53186)

But it won't be available for very long...

Yes the 9900 will play MP3s...

And BitPim may work with the cdm9900 as it uses the Qualcomm chip set... and there is a data cable and CD kit available from Audiovox...
