Just got off the phone with Verizon. Update said to be released 11/7 to fix volume bug. I haven't tried this yet.

You take your phone into a Verizon store that has a Service Department... they will flash your phone with the latest firmware version...

Always call ahead to check that they actually have a newer version available... go to menu/setting/phone-info to see what version of the firmware is currently in your phone...

TMBS, can you help answer some questions regarding the CDM9900 & VX6100 since you have both phones? I currently have the 6100 with the volume bug problem just like everyone else, at first, it was not a problem, but it's getting pretty annoying, other than that, I have not had a problem yet. I have read several comments about the signal strength problem with both the CDM9900 & VX6100, I just wish people would tell us where they live & what kind of plan do they have with VZW. I live in the border of KS & MO, therefore, tri-mode is very important to me. I'm also on the Single Rate plan instead of American Choice. Can you tell me if the PRL is different between the two plans? Could this be the problem with "signal strength" that people are compl...

It is unlikely that the Preferred Roaming List (PRL) would effect the signal... However, it will effect how you are billed for using those towers...

Both the 6100 and the 9900 have very good signal handling abilities... with the edge going to the 9900...

Both phone do a better in the 800MHz (CELL) band... then they do in the 1900MHz (PCS) band... which is to be expected...

When a firmware update is announced, are the phones shipped from the VZW website updated before they leave, or do we have to take it into the Verizon store for the update?
Also, is this different from dialing *228 with option 1?

I just called EVERY Verizon store in the metro Boston area, and not only had the technicians never heard of the "volume bug" issue with the LG 6100's, they also had no information about any pending firmware upgrade. That's the bad news.

The good news is I did find one store that has several Audiovox 9900's still in stock, including a live model that I can check out and make calls from. I think I'm going to rush down there and evaluate that phone, since it seems to be getting such rave reviews. As far as a tri-mode phone with speakerphone option from Verizon goes, this may be my only credible option. (I saw the Motorola v265 at a Radio Shack store this weekend and I was sorely disappointed with that unit -- and the v710 ... well, wha...

My local store does not yet have access to this update. They said to try later in the week since it usually takes about 5 days after the release for them to receive the software updates.

I wonder what else this update fixes. I have had some reception issues. Hopefully, the update addresses this as well.

It can NOT be reverse...

Also *228 option #1 is only used to put the needed data in the phone to allow the phone to use the Verizon system, these settings are placed in phone "OTA" (Over The Air) so that they do not have to be entered manually...

*228 has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the phone's firmware version...!!!

You can't. Both this model and the Nokia 6015i were supposed to have this (banner) day 1 but di dnot. It's now the way it was supposed to be when you left the store with it new.

It's not all over the phone, it's one line near the top.

How can you call on 11/8 and get a response that says it will be released a day earlier-on a Sunday to boot??!!

Did you mean to type 11/17?

I just got off the phone with all LG representative, and she told me that, yes, LG is aware of the "volume bug" issue and that a software patch is forthcoming. However, currently, no Verizon store has the upgrade -- it hasn't even been completed by LG yet. She was unable to estimate for me when it would actually be available, but doubted it would be before the end of this month.
