Just out of curiosity, is there any way
to disable analog on 6100 (i.e. so that
it doesn't try to acquire analog signal
at all)?

you can disable but after you turn off/on the phone, it defaults back to 'Automatic'. it becomes a pain if you have to do it all the time.

It would be if you frequently turn off you phone... I rarely turn off my phone... It usually is left on for weeks or months in a row...
