I need someone more familiar with PRL updates to answer this one-TMBS are you there?! 😲

PRIOR to this past Saturday I had to force mode mine to 'Cell Only' to get a decent indoor signal. Outdoors was OK but 'CELL only' still pulled a stronger signal there as well. (Note, this is in the Milw/Waukesha, WI area).

NOW when I leave it on 'Automatic' it still switches to 'Extended Network' in my workplace (as I'd expect due to the CDMA 800 signal is better than the CDMA 1900 BUT the signal strength now matches or slightly exceeds that of the CELL ONLY setting.

Does this make any sense?? Note that I'm comparing the 'Rx Power' levels at all settings.

Never mind. I just got excited too soon. Apparentley didn't let the signal 'stabilize' long enough. Rx levels same as before. Sigh. 🤭

Mike...

You are dealing with radio waves here...

Many things affect their propagation from minute to minute... even sun spots... and in digital mode, if you have a usable signal, that is all you need, the actual functionality does not get "better" with 5 bars, rather than 2, when a cell phone is used in a digital mode...

Sometimes you can have NO bars and have a very clear conversation (if you don't move around much)...

The PRL for the Milwaukee area has not change since October 7, 2004... meaning there have been no new towers activated in our area since then... However, they could have repaired or re-aimed some equipment... That could explain it...
