Signal strength

I recently upgraded my LG VX10 to a VX6100.

I travel through the Washington/Dulles airport frequently, and am on my phone during my walk through the main terminal.

My VX10 never dropped a call there. My VX6100 does drop calls.

Is this really a VX6100 problem, or the difference between a extended antenna (VX10) and stub antenna (VX6100)?

Do phones with stub antennas inherently have lower signal strength due to that design?

Is this just a design tradeoff made 'acceptable' by evaluating the better tower coverage of "today" (in general) vs. the consumer hassle of fooling with an extendable antenna?

Its both. You always do better with an extendible antenna, but this phone in particular seems to have a problem with holding signals. Mine is probably going back for the Motorola V265. Not as flashy, but seems to be pretty problem free.
