Making my own ringtones for the VX-4650

Hi everyone,

I'm a total ringtone newbie, so please forgive my cluelessness. I'm interested in editing my own ringtone... and I don't mean the MIDI thing, although that would be cool too, but I want to edit a WAV and end up with a snippet of it as my ringtone.

I'm very handy with audio editing; I do it on a daily basis so I don't really need any help in creating the file per se. I just need to know what format it needs to be, and then what to do with it. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

thanks!
Ron

The sample rate needs to be set at 16000 @ 32bit mono. You can try adjusting the settings a little, but it should be around this area. Your overall file should be no larger than 130kb, and it should be saved as an MP3. After that you have to transfer it via a USB Cable for your PC to your phone.

32 bit? Are you sure about that? CD audio is only 16 bit, I wouldn't have expected ringtone audio to be twice the bit depth. I just want to be sure that wasn't a typo... but thanks for the reply!

yes. I use 32bit at a sample rate of either 22-24.

I just switched from a Motorola T730 to this one. I have the USB cable, what software do you guys recommend to send ringtones/wallpaper, etc. to the 4650?

Okay answering my own post. Has anyone tried BitPim successfully?

It says it works with LG CDMA phones.

Since nobody answered, did you go ahead and try BitPim anyway? What were the results?

I've got ringtones and wallpaper uploading from the PC now, so if anyone is interested, here's what I did...

First, you need a cable. This is the one I'm using:

DO NOT PLUG IN THE CABLE. Insert the CD that comes with it, and run the setup.exe to install the VX-4400 drivers. Yes, I know you have a 4650/4700... trust me. Now you can plug in the cord if you want to, and let Windows do it's Found New Hardware thing.

Next, go to http://www.bitpim.org/, download BitPim and install it.

Plug your phone in through the USB cord (make sure it's got a good charge on it; this process seems to eat battery power). Launch BitPim and go to Edit > Settings. Set the Phone Type to VX-4400. ...
