Black RAZR question

know many stores are starting to get the black edition of the Motorola v3 Razr (though it isn't on Cingular.com yet), and I have just one question about it.

For those of you that have seen one hands-on:

What is the casing like?
Is it black plastic?
Is it anodized aluminum (similar to the original v3)?
Is it painted or powder-coated aluminum?

Okay, that's actually more than one question. Think of it as multiple choice!

Just got mine today!!!!

1. What is the casing like?
Ummm its kind has a rough feeling to it, not real smooth.

2. Is it black plastic?
No not at all. Feels like metal to me.

3. Is it anodized aluminum (similar to the original v3)? Yes, but like i said before not as smooth.

4. Is it painted or powder-coated aluminum?
Not quite sure on that, but to me it looks painted.

Overall same features as the silver, but just all BLACK.

The (outer) case on the silver V3 is plastic, not metal/aluminum. Aluminum wouldn't be durable enough, especially at the thickness this would need to be. Not to mention cost-prohibitive.

I'm sure the same is true of the black version, and I'd be really surprised if it was painted, as opposed to molded. Way more expensive to paint than to mold out of black plastic.

The faceplate is aircraft-grade aluminum that's been laser cut.

If it were aluminum it could be powder coated, but it would chip in no time.

Sooner or later someone will have one and it will get scratched, and then we'll know.

I thought the V3 was made of the same material as the Powerbooks (and my G4 feels like metal). 😲
