i just got (downloaded) mpt v3.11, connected my razr via usb, and the main reason its not working, i believe, is cause my pc only has a communication port 1!! mpt uses com 3 and com 4 right? is there a way i can enable this? plz help, thanks!

my computer> properties> hardware> device manager> port> only shows com1 and lp1 (for printer)

USB should be independent of the standard serial and parallel ports. As long as you have the appropriate USB drivers running, it should work. In your device manager, you should see an entry like USB Serial Bus Controllers if your USB is working.

If you are using a USB hub, try connecting the cable directly to a USB port on the back of the computer.

Also, you may wish to update to v3.25b. That can be done from the Help/Setup menu using LiveUpdate.

thanks for the reply. i plugged the cable into the usb port on the front of my pc. the reason i think its the lack of com3 or com4 is because windows detects my phone, however mpt does not. when i try to select my modem (v3) from mpt, there will be a select port page, and nothing will be listed. i will try upgrading to 3.25 now, here goes >

hmm well...

i think i made some progress. when mpt tells me to select a port, i choose com1 and uncheck the TAPI modem. now it shows that the com port is serial com port (usb right?). now i get the model of the razr on my pc, but it still has the number sign with the red negative sign on the screen, saying communication port unavailable. any ideas?
