Dear People who are smart and helpful,
thanks to everybody who has been posting in here, ive been reading all the threads for a while and they have been very helpful... i just joined because i had an idea and i didnt know if any1 was down for it:
It just so happens that everyweek or so people come in posting the same questions and then people post the same answers just directing people to differnt places...
so i was wondering if we can just put all the Frequently asked questions and answers right in the front... or like in responce to this, so that people do not have to post the same thing everytime... these could include
1.how to get pictures off your phone
2.how to load pictures and songs onto your phone
3.How to use the SD card...

how do i load the pictures on my computer with the full 1.3mp resolution size?

I am using a data cable and Bitpim, and I can save pics and videos from my phone to my pc, but cannot do anything else! When I click on data, send/get phone data, the box comes up but I can't click on anything! Anyone use Bitpim and know what to do?

Does anyone know how long you wil be able to record video?

What will the resolution be??

i own the cdm-8940. To others who have it:

1) How to make picture ID show up on the outside of the phone (sub LCD) when someone calls? It's pointless inside.

2) How to make the backgrounds of the sublcd customized?

Also, any instructions to send our own ringtones (midi or mp3) to this phone would be appreciated.

i was thinking about buying this phone but i was wondering if the preloaded backgrounds are any good and if the external display graphic is decent. if any body could upload a picture or something of this that would really help a lot. thanks

Im trying to decide between the 8940 and the V710, does anyone have opinions to offer me, pros cons of each phone?

I contacted Audiovox customer service and asked them if they knew of a planned software update to allow the picture of the person calling to appear on the front LCD, not just the inside screen. This was their response:

"CDM-8940 is a very new phone, but we are not hearing anything that would indicate our engineering department intends to offer a software upgrade that would allow this.
To be perfectly honest, it would be unlikely that it will happen."

Very disappointing.
Maybe if we can get enough people to complain about it, they'll hear the demand for it and get an update out.

After 4 days of use, I've found these issues (at least they are issues in my opinion). If anyone knows workarounds for these please tell.

Cannot configure duration of low setting of backlight (fixed at 5 seconds)

Vibrate then ring can only use loudest ring volume!

Vcast volume setting #2 too loud, setting #1 is the same as #0 (mute)

Vcast audio plays on outter speaker, not inner speaker (causing sound to go away from viewer)

Phone book doesn't have an 'Other' phone number element.

Camera quality is horrible.

Cannot zoom/pan on picture once taken, no way to tell if picture is any good.

mini-SD card is crippled.

I love new technology in the new cell phones but i don't have the knowledge for it can someone help me how to download MP3 format for a ringtone for the Audiovox 8940 for Verizonwireless please

with the 8940 can u download pictures, music or videos from the computer to the phone for free, for example media downloaded from kazaa?

I'd like other 8940 owners' opinions on the battery life of the 8940. My battery lasted 7 days, making about 30 mins of calls and a few txt msgs. I recharged it the night of the 7th day cause it was at one bar, but I have no doubt it could have gone another day b4 dying.
I'm pretty happy with that...how is everybody else's usage?

I bought the data cable #28 and installed the curitel usb driver. I was wondering if there are any software I can download so I could upload my Outlook contacts onto the phone, and how to do it. Has anyone been able to do this? Thanks for your help.

I bought the 8940 on Friday and I heard what it sounds like a watch ticking when talking on the phone, it happens 8/10 times. I took it back, the other phone has the same problem. The service rep couldn't heard it though. ☹️ Anyone else have this problem? I really like this phone but can't stand the ticking.

I've been downloading pictures from my phone using the usb driver and bitmap. I go under the directory brew/shared/jpeg. However now two of the folders under shared have disappeared and I can take flix. The only folders I have under shared are jpeg and wallpaper. Could someone please list the names of the others so I can add them. Thanks

Anybody else notice that the price for the 8940 has gone up $20? The LG 8000 and Samsung 890 prices stayed the same. I wonder if the demand for the 8940 has gone down b/c of bad reviews, so Verizon is trying to make more money b/c of lack of sales. Or could it be on the supply side, that UTStarcom hasn't produced enough phones to keep up with demand?
Either way, I'm glad I got mine on Feb. 1 when it was cheaper!!
