LG VX-3300 / 3280
STILL No External Display?!?
BUT... no external display? C'MON... get REAL. đ
Guess I gotta wait and see what Samsung is gonna roll out this year.
The VX3100, VX3200, and most likely the VX3300 will be great sellers, mostly in part due to cheap cost and good reliability.
check something like the VX4500 or VX4600 for an LG low/no frills phone with an outside display, but I wouldn't hold my breath for an LG VX3XXX series phone with one.
I think LG just wanted to 'refresh' the 3K line with as little effort as possible. Not saying its a bad phone by any means, just that it could be better.

Is that why the VIP Startac is desired by everyone?
I think its called "nostalgia". People will always want '57 Chevys too.
You buy a 3 series Bimmer... it has 4 doors, a 1.8 litre turbo 4, pw win, dl and a cd player and it comes in green. Thats the product... but to complain about it not being a 5 series is completely pointless... its like getting a plasma tv and complaining about how its not a DLP or LCD...
Oh btw I have a 4500 by LG and its the dogs ballocks of $40 phones. I exchanged my KX2 for it because I couldn't justify the price difference for the 2 main things I desire... call clarity and good speakerphone.
Or you can look at like this: Its all just a marketing ploy... make ya pay for the little things.
Wiggah, please. (j/k) đ

Its simply too handy... as a watch, and to see who's calling without opening the phone. Nor is an outside display terribly expensive or unreliable. Maybe a few years ago, but hey, its 2005.
Its not like it'd be hard to add it... heck, its practically standard on new phones these days. đ
The Kyocera Soho KX1 just came out for Verizon, and it seems to be a good inexpensive entry-level flip with trimode and speakerphone (and sans camera, to please the boss) just like the 3300... except that it ALSO has one of those nasty ol' external displays that everyone here claims costs too much and breaks (uh yeah, right...).
So when it comes time to upgrade, guess I'll be checkin' out the Kyo (or maybe Moto, with the V260). Sorry LG, guess it's not meant to be.
It hasn't. The Sammy a650, a660 and upcoming X470 and the new Motorola without external LCD prove it.
At least with the LG, you can change the faceplate if you don't like it.

Uh, if external LCD was so desired by everyone, it would have gone the way of the dinosaur.

The Sammy a650 is getting replaced by the a new entry-level Samsung, the N330... which has a sliding main display that also acts as an external display. What does that tell ya?
Oh wait, there is also a Sanyo without an external display and of course the Audiovox 8930. And the upcoming Nokia 2651 has no external display. Most major clam maker has at least one offering.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but the market for cheap clams that don't have an external will never die while people still want the $0 phone.
I think you're right in that, for awhile to come, there'll be a small niche at the low end for non-external display clams. But at some point, they'll become extinct, because ppl will just think its too ghetto to have a clam without it.
Its like cars and power steering... there's still a couple of cars ghetto enough to not come with it standard, but the number has been steadily dwindling over the years, and eventually, they'll be gone. Product feature sets just evolve upwards over time... its kinda inevitable. Not to say that the 3300 is a bad phone otherwise.
Oh, and let me repeat that I didn't mean to imply that the 3300 was a bad phone. I know its good. I just think it could be even better with a dual display.
You guys are lucky that you know what phone you're gonna get... I'm just now hearing that Kyocera Soho is only a so-so phone, so I might be waiting for the Nokia 3155, which won't be out 'till the 3rd quarter. Augh. âšī¸
