I got my 5600 yesterday, downloaded the latest transfer software from bitpim's sourcforge project (0.7.27.. may be developer version but it's stable)

I uploaded my 5500 data...ALL of it pic's, ringers etc... to BitPim

Then plugged in the 5600 and left it set as a 5500 and transferred the phone book directly and the pic's via various free online services like pcspix.com

...then I realized the phone book number order had been shifted on the new phone!

Not a big deal though I wrote the slight shift order down and went into bitpim and just changed the labels then re-transferred and resent the entire phone book overwriting the old one.

I was up and running in less than an hour...and with free software!

What program did you use? BitPim or FutureDial's sync software?
With BitPim You can Download all the stuff from your old phone but you can't upload the calendar yet. Sanyo's also have a limitation that you can only transfer 1 or 2 ringers and/or Pictures back to the phone because they go into the VERY SMALL PC Sync folder... no real reason to put your pictures there anyway. You can just drag pictures over to your sd card, assign them to whichever contacts you want, then delete them from the sd card (they'll be transferred to the phones main memory when assigned) 😕

Well, at the very least, you haven't had the phone for 14 days. You can call telesales and tell them they sent you a faulty phone and make them overnight a new one. 😁 I dunno if they are open on weekends. Heck! since the 5600 is listed on the sprint site now for sale you SHOULD be able to call *2 Cust Serv and have them take care of it! 😉

And when they send you the replcement...only transfer the phonebook and when you go to upload your inforto the new phone be sure you have the phone model set as 5500 in BitPim not an LG or Samsung (etc) product.

I transferred my 5500 phone book to my 5600 thru Bitpim and I noticed the change in phone number type. Like someone's home number is listed in the cell phone slot, etc. Can you tell me exactly what you did step by step to fix this thru bitpim.

1. Opened BitPIM and under the phonebook tab I chose the View columns option

2. I chose to view Home, Office, Cell, Pager, Data, Fax, None, Email and put the columns in that order after the Name column

3. I wrote down the phone number entry order of each phone in a column (my 5500 and 5600) the way it is labeled in Bitpim (Home Office Cell..etc and not Home Work, Mobile)

the order is H = C, O = H, C = O, P = P, D = F, F = Oth, N = N, Em = Em. The first letter is the first letter of the 5500 listing the second is the 5600 listing.

4. I Double clicked on each entry (I had 198 entries) and using my lil chart, double clicked on each entry. Click on a phone number and not the name to go directly to the number tab. All phone number e...

Khariton,

In step 5 of your instructions are you saying that after I change the labesl via drop down menu then I have to change the phone number too right? I can't change tab to cell without the cell number being there?

Nope! Lets Say You have a Cell Phone number that is showing up as the Office phone number in your 5600. (C in 5500 = O in 5600)

In the BitPim phonebook entry edit screen you will see the mumber listed with the Dropdown Menu next to "TYPE" set as Office.

Simply Change this to "Home" and when you transfer the phonebook it will show up as the Cell Phone number. (H in 5500 = C in 5600)

When you change the category via that drop down menu it moves the number to the correct category. Try fixing one or two entries at first. You can always overwrite the phone book in the 5600 just DONT USE BITPIM FOR ANY CALENDAR TRANSFERS! Ringers and Pics are OK since they are in a protected space but you can only do 1 or two at a time. Better to just use...
