If so, what are your thoughts comparisons?

This may or may not help you out, but I've been looking into both the 8100 and the 9800 since my contract will be up soon. I love both, and I was sure I wanted the 9800, but I'm going to go with the 8100 instead. The 9800 is a nice phone, especially since it has the keyboard, but there are a lot of little reasons I decided against it. For example, it's too expensive for it to be able to do everything the 8100 can with the keyboard being the difference. It's kind of bulky, the fonts are small, the keys on the front are small, etc. The 8100 feels good in my hands (sturdy), it takes awesome pictures, and they look great on both screens, etc. I don't know what either of them sound like, but my hubby tried out his friend's 8100, and he said it...

I think it's about what you want to do with the phone. The 8100 is a phone first, with great multimedia features. The 9800 is multimedia first, and also makes calls. That is not to say it doesn't function great as a phone, but the smaller buttons on the front, small front display, and bar phone shape are perfect examples of sacrifices made on the phone side to make it better for multimedia. The in call sound quality is still great, bluetooth works identically, and I've seen no difference in reception despite the internal antenna. (I have the 8100, a co-worker friend has the 9800, if you're wondering where my comparison info comes from)
The other response to this query suggested that the only difference was the keyboard, but that's not tru...

I like your candor and the knowledgeable tone of your voice... đ
However, you are forgetting one important factor, T650 doesn't have EVDO, which means you'll be surfing the web at dial-up speeds âšī¸. I would have gotten the Treo hadn't not been for this. The T700 will have EVDO.
The only good PDA VZW currently sells is the i730 at $600 which doesn't have a camera. âšī¸
So, in reality 9800 in its price range, even with $19/mnt WS is a bargain and unmatched in VZW's current line up of phones.

đŗ ah, good point, that certainly tips the scales.
And I read the T700 will run windows mobile instead of palm, which I will appreciate as well.
Thanks for the correction. đ

I got to check out the 9800 yesterday and I must agree on one thing if nothing else. The display on the 9800 is simply WOW. I love the clarity of the 8100 and 815, but the 9800 puts them to shame. Its something you have to see, it can't really be expressed through words.

I did. Actually, I went from the 8100 to the 950, and now to the 9800. I have to say the 9800 excluding it's size is definitely the best of the three. I loved the 8100, but the volume issue drove me over the edge. Hopefully it's replacement wll be better in this department. The volume is so good on the 9800....it's almost too good. For the first time in a very loooong time, I actually have to put the volume on medium! AWESOME!!
Question: does anyone know how to set your pictures so that they take up the entire exterior screen on the 9800? I've looked and looked in the menu system, but cannot seem to find an area where I can resize the pictures.
Thanks in advance!!

Are you sure the 9800 surfs the web not using mobile web 2.0??

9800 has only 1 way to surf the web and that's through Mobile Web 2. However you can go to any site and click on links and stuff. Thumbnail pictures open too.

Thats what I thought.I was just checking the Quote from OhioVZWagent who said you can surf the web NOT using MW 2.0

I was referring to the Treo 650, as a comparison against the 8100 and it's wireless sync capabilities. As SHIVA pointed out, the Treo does surf the internet directly, but lacks EVDO and so it surfs at dial-up speeds at best.
Mobile-web is pretty structured, but as SHIVA said you can type in addresses and surf regular web sites, but it's very awkward on the relatively tiny screen. If you access www.google.com from the mobile web application it actually includes a button to restrict your search to pages configured for mobile-web browsers. It's great in theory, but there still aren't many pages set up to view correctly on the phone.
