Motorola V190

What is going to make anyone buy this ugly phone? Not only is the phone ugly but it has nothing that Samsung x497 or LG 1500 has. The v180 was such a failure with customers that I promise to never sell this phone. Unless someone gives me a reason to...

I bought a Cingular-packaged "Pay as You Go" Motorola V190 here in the U.S. last week and have activated the service.

We're going to Italy next week. Will it be possible for me to just remove the Cingular SIM that's in the phone and replace it with a SIM I buy over there for use while we're in Italy?

From what I can see, the biggest question I have is whether my phone is "unlocked," meaning I'm free to use any SIM I want to use. If it's not unlocked already, what do I need to do to unlock it (assuming it's possible for me to do that)?

Does anyone know if it's possible or how to change alert tones on the Motorola V190 phone? I've been playing around with it for the last hour trying to find how I can do this, but I don't see where.
What I want to do is change the incoming tone I would get for a text msg into something else. Is this possible? If so, can anyone tell me how to do it please?

I've just finished doing everything. I downloaded the ringtone from muchmusic.com... it sent a link to my inbox on my phone... and I clicked "go to" on it.. and I think it's downloaded onto my phone, but I'm not sure. I don't know where to go on my phone to set the ringtone as my real ringtone. I just don't know where to go to find out or change my ringtone. I tried calling my cell phone from my home phone, but it wasn't the ringtone I wanted it to be, it was still the regular ringing. Sorry, I don't really know how to explain it in any other way. Can anyone help me? ☹️ TIA!

would I need a usb cable that come with or without the software in order to get the mp3 ringtones on my phone?

It keeps saying I have speakerphone, but I don't see anything that looks like a speakerphone button. All the stupid book says is to press the speakerphone button, or, if you don't have one, choose the menu button and then choose speakerphone. I don't see either.

I want to put in a home phone number and a work phone number for the same person. When I change it to work, the phone number doesn't clear. I feel like I'm replacing the home number with the work number. Is this the correct way of doing it?

In my old phone, you press # to give a couple of beats before the phone dials the extension number. I don't see any instructions for it here. This instruction book is so bad! How do input a business phone number with a gap before the extension, please?

Would appreciate any input or ideas on charging battery in automobile ?

Will the battery charge with the charger when the engine for the car is in "OFF" ???

So far this model has just been offered as a pre-paid Go-phone. Will it ever be available from Cingular with one of their regular plans?

😕 I am a new phone owner and I was wondering how to change different rings for different things. like my ring tone would be one thing, and my voice mail another and so on...or simply is there a way to assign different rings to different people. I am so lost lol. I read this little book about 10 times and still feel like a moron. Oh and does anyone know of a place where you can get free ringtones?

My volume-setting gets changed when I put this phone in my pocket -- somehow the 2 buttons (on the left side) seem to always get pushed. Is there a way to lock these ? THX -- Bob

These are the p2k drivers that let me finish the installation of the v190 and got rid of the annoying ! next to the device in my hardware list. I was then able to use the v190 with the p2k programs and pst. Here is the link for anyone that wants them.

I bought this go-phone as a replacement for my post pay account had it for one night it worked great but the next morning cingular restricted my sim card from post pay to go-phone staus

whenever i try to put an audio file using motorola phone tools, it says "mp3 codec not supported". I converted the mp3 to an .wav file but it had the same message. I checked the phone and it said it was mp3 ready. i dont know what else to, can someone help me.

I used my phone just two times so far to call CS and if I have it set to the highest volume at 7 the speakerphone will crackle here and there. If I have it on 6 or below it doesn't. I just wanted to know if anyone else has this problem or if prehaps I have a faulty one. Thank you.

Just in case anyone is wondering, this phone has fairly good multimedia support. If you have Motorola's Phone Tools 4.0, you should be able to connect the phone to your computer via a 4-pin to 6-pin USB cable. Note that if you have Motorola's Phone Tools 3.0, you should be able to connect to the phone by identifying it as a V180. If you have the 4.0 version of the software, it will recognize it as the V190.

Anyway, if you have that software, you can import MP3's, snip them up (if you want to, you don't have to), and transfer them to the phone. You can then use them as ringtones. You can transfer the full song as well. I figure you can fit probably 10-15 full songs on the phone. The speaker quality is ok; I haven't tried it with headphones...
