Will you ellaborate on why you're not a fan of Audiovox and/or the smartphones? I've been pretty content with my samsung i500 and am thinking this has so much more, but I don't want to give up a pretty good basic organizer phone if the 6700 is a fancy a piece of junk.

You were making a reference to this device as a SmartPhone. Actually its a PocketPC, two totally different operating systems. While both designed to mirror Windows the PC version is more business minded allowing individuals to access programs like excel and word while mobile. The Smart Phone doesn't. Unless you plan on learning on how to use all the features and what the phone is truly capable of, don't get it. i love my 6600, and am awaiting my already ordered 6700. if you have any questions ask away... darionlear@hotmail.com... or 9153736182

Actually Smartphone and PocketPC are even closer in design now with WM5 as opposed to earlier versions.

Another selling point of WM5 is application compatibility between the Pocket PC and Smartphone versions of the OS. Previously, developers had to produce two seperate installs for their programs if they wanted to work on both PPC and SP. Now, the same version of a program will run on both devices, at least in theory. It's about time. The need to have seperate, incompatible versions of an application negated any real benefit from running similar operating systems on Pocket PCs and Windows Smartphones.

True, but as far as the 6600 to the 6700 the 66 uses Windows Mobile 2003 SE, while the 67 is running the first version massed produced for public use of WM5. Smart Phones such as the I-600 use a totally different bios for programs the will not allow any type of program sharing between the two versions, like movie players, music players, games, professional aps, or even the ability to have a full Microsoft Suite. Either way, they both have their advantages.

Understand that AudioVox doesn't make these phones. HTC, out of Japan does. I think AudioVox has something (if anything) to do with the phone carrier software for Sprint only.

HTC makes the pocket pc, UTStarcom under the name of Audiovox made the Verizon and Sprint version of the XV6600/PPC6600. Otherwise known as the HTC Harrier. I have this phone for Verizon, and I love it. The HTC Blue Angel was the cingular version also known as the Siemens x66 (I think on this one...)
However... I would absolutely love to see this phone go to Verizon. I've been waiting for something with windows mobile 5 to come out to replace the XV6600 for me. Especially if it comes with WIFI built in.
But from what my Verizon Rep just told me today actually.. Is that Verizon doesn't know if they want to use windows mobile 5 or not yet. So... My hopes aren't up for this phone unfortunetly. Someone please prove me wrong!

I have heard from a good source that the 6700 will be available to Verizon in November it is the only difference is that it is black.

My sources who shall remain anonymous tell me that the 6700 should be out by the end of this year, November could be a possibility, but we all know how meticulous VZW is with testing and could push it back to the start of 2006.
I am also told the Sam730 should be upgradable to WM5 for a modest sum once WM5 launches en masse sometime around Feb 06.
The Palm Treo 700 will run WM5 as was announced in the press release earlier this week. My sources tell me Jan/Feb, maybe later it is still in testing...
