Text message and Voicemail ringtones
If there a way or a hack to set up personal ringtones like mp3s or wmas to play instead of the basic defaults beeps?
...
This is possible. Copy the songs/mp3 files you want into the device. Once they are in the 6700, find them (they will usually be in the MY MUSIC FOLDER in the 6700). Click on the song/mp3 you want as the ringtone, and then hold the stylus down on it. You will see a new menu pop up and you will have the option to SET AS RINGTONE. Select this option. Once this is selected, the 6700 will copy your song to a special ringtone folder (windows/rings). Then, open up your sounds/notifications section Under settings) and then on the list of "beeps" at the bottom, will be your song/mp3
Post here if you still have problems
- Thanks !

that only works for the ringtone for phone calls. I saved all my personal mp3s as ringtones and none of them showed up in the drop down list when i wanted to change the "TEXT MESSAGING" or "VOICEMAIL" sounds.

That is because you can only use MP3's as RINGTONES. 😳
You can't use MP3's as EVENT SOUNDS. 😡
USE MP3/WMA/WAV for Ringtones
USE WMA/WAV for Events
😁

Could you explain how to set the ringtones for text messages i tryed but could not get it to work

I tried your instructions, but cannot get the WAV file to come up on the list of sounds for notification. Any other ways to do this? I am having trouble accessing the file type in my ringtones, maybe that would help me identify a wma/wav to send??
Thanks

Put your phone in the cradle, right click and copy the wav file you want to use as a notification-->on your PC, open your Mobile Device-->open "My Windows Mobile-Based Device"-->Windows-->right click and paste the files. Sync if necessary. Your files should now show up in your notification sounds drop down menu.

I tried doing that but for some reason I don't have a Windows folder when I go to "My Windows Mobile-Based Device". Any other options?

Will it play the whole song or just a snibbit of it?? is it a way to shorten the songs??

It will play the whole mp3. Google for a free download called MP3 Splitter & Joiner to shorten and edit your song. If you want to convert it into a wav file, Musicmatch Jukebox can do that.

I use WavePad. It's very easy to use and it' a free download too. You can save any mp3 to a wav, wma, or whatever after you shorten, or make a clip of a file.

You can "borrow" ringtones from websites like http://mobile.mtv.com because the samples allow you to save as when you preview... I'm sure there are more ringtone websites with similar format..but I haven't tried any other ones yet.
