ney12Aug 29, 2006, 12:33 PM
I subscribed to Xingtone to create ring tones from my music and send them to my phone by text message. I got the message and saved the file to my phone but it is a .gcd file and I can't open it. Please help.

dude... just download or google "goldwave".. you can edit, crop, increase volume/speed or decrease it. the program will let you save the music in any format i.e. mp3, wma ect, ect. then save it to your memory card, high light the file from the phone and select "set as ringtone". wow, I should have just done it for you huh? lol, anyways that's what I use and its awesome. Hey can you use ringtones that you make for alerts or texts? How do you do that? Right now I just use mobile 17 get the song I want (piece of it) and bluetooth it to my phone and use it as a ringtone, either Mp3 of WAV, however no where can I see a place to use a ringer for texts or alerts, these damn BELLS and DINGS suck and I can never distinguish the different notifications, a song would be nice. I may use goldwave if its really good, and you can change the volume. Let me know.
Thanks
James

You can use MP3 files for your ringer and WAV files for your event sounds (sms, voicemail etc). Just copy them to your phone. Click and hold down on the MP3 files and you can pick SET AS RINGTONE option. For WAV files, copy them to the WINDOWS directory and you should be able to see them under the sounds like 🙂

First things first, Jayhova035. Can you navigate around a Personal Computer very well? If you can then this won't be a problem for you because WM5 is very similar to using a PC. You have to open the File Explorer by clicking Start then Programs. Once you're there, click on "My Device" then "Windows". You are now in the windows directory and you can copy/cut/paste any WMA files there for your notification alerts. MP3's are a little different. You have to click and hold on them and then click "Set as Ringtone" for them to be set up for your ringtone.
I use WavePad (a free program) to edit and shorten my MP3's to what I want my ringtone to include in that song. Then I save it with a different filename and that way the whole song isn't the ri...
