I consider this phone to be very homophobic.....

Come on people its 2006, not every family has a "mommy" and "daddy" therefor i think its wrong to have a phone with dedicated mommy and daddy buttons.... what if a family with two fathers or two mothers wants to buy this phone? there are no dedicated "daddy" and "papa" keys for these families... thats why i would conisider the LG migo over this... there are dedicated buttons for "parent 1" and "parent 2" as well as two addition buttons...................................... ............................................. ............................................. .. just wanned to point that out.. 😉

Thank God!

All you need is phones where you can block out certain features (texting, internet, etc). If your kids needs a migo, and can't handle all 9 numbers on a cell phone, then they prolly shouldnt have a cell phone. Kids now a days are pretty tech savvy and I think a 10-12 year old can handle a phone with all nine numbers.

Just give parents control over minutes, texts, and internet and I think everyone will be happy.

Junior Ketai are a hit in Japan!

It still amazes me how different our markets are compared to Japan. AU (KDDI Japan) launched "junior ketai" phones earlier this year specifically for kids, they've been a big success! These phones are phones that kids (and even teens!) want to flaunt. 🙂 With built in GPS, megapixel camera, and that cuteness factor that is soo ketai!

Check it out:

It seems like those phones are there to stay compared to the "fad" that they once were here.

T-Mob wins again!

No kid wants those ugly phones, and just because a phone can't download, doesn't mean it won't go over the minutes. Looks like T-Mob was the only ones able to put a good enough package together for the kiddies!

Even kids...

...are culturally savvy.

They don't want crappy kid phones...they want what they see their brothers and sisters with.

Wonder if good ol' TMO will get it...

I guess it's time to bang the drum to get TMO to jump on the bandwagon. At least you'd know that your kids would have good service that way.

Recall?

The phone just dissapeared from Cingular's website, and a friend of mine works for an agent and told me that they were just instructed to pull their inventory. I was planning on getting this for my kid, but is the Cingular Firefly no more?

Smart Move from Cingular

Cingular is now putting a cell phone in the hands of kids. Nice move. Cingy is thinking ahead when these kids will grow up... The first think that'll come to mind [when thinking about cell phones] will be Cingular.
Kinda like me growing up. I used to see my mom and dad use their StarTacs... lol Now, as an adult male when I think of cell phones, the first thing that comes to mind is Moto. Hmmmm...

How much of an impact will it have

At first I thought, "Smart Move" but now i'm wondering why parents would buy this, when a 6010 is free. and if the kids have the capability to use it as a normal phone, the parents can save cash and cut the home phone and move their plan higher with cingular. I dunno if its a shot in the foot or not, please share your opinion.

This isn't a new phone

Edge Wireless, Cingular's Affiliate providing GSM/GPRS/EDGE & TDMA on the 1900 band here in Northern California, as well as in S OR, SE ID and W WYO, has had it for several months now.
