Sony Ericsson W810

I am thinking about buying this phone. It seems to be a pretty sick phone. I don't like the idea of Cingular branding so I definitely want it debranded, but whats the difference between debranding and an unlocked phone?

i've been searching for a new phone recently. i currently have the ericsson t637 and have really enjoyed it. for this reason, i'm really drawn to this new ericsson phone. i was pretty close to buying it, but then i realized that the buttons don't light up. i thought that was highly problematic. i've searched through the forums here and noone seems to complain about it. could someone clarify: do the buttons light up? if not, does this pose a problem for those of you who don't have the keypad memorized (ie, when texting in dark rooms)? is there enough light from the screen to see the buttons and letters printed on them?

Aloha, I have a question about being able to watch internet video on this phone from sites like yahoo.video/ mtv.com etc. I have an unlocked phone, and so far I have found this site, and all of the people who answer to be very helpful with all of my questions which I really appreciate. Anyway the question stands is it possible to watch video off the internet. I had asked this question earlier in a thread that asked about a Flash(?) player. Any help would be appreciated.

I was browsing around SE website and found this file "Update_Service_Setup-2.6.11.7" for updating the w810i. Has anyone done this update? Does anyone know what would happen to the phone once this update is performed?

So now that I've used my phone for a week after I've debranded it, I have to say I'm a little disappointed. There are some definite pluses like not having the shutter sound on in silent mode, having video mode default to the high quality video setting, changing the internet key to a shortcut key, and removing general cingular shopping options from the menu. But on the other hand, only one new theme was unlocked and no new ringtones. I guess I thought debranding would turn my W810 into a super phone, really it only fine tunes it.

Are you aware that Cingular charges for using the phone as dial-up modem? I just received my first-month bill. I was charged a huge amount because I used it almost everyday for my laptop on the road for about a week. While I was with Verizonwireless, it was free and only costed minutes. Cingular charges it for data usage.

My question is: if I sign up for a Cingular data plan, will it cover the usage of using it as a dial-up modem since this is not officially supported? Does anyone know the answer?

I'd really appreciate a prompt response. I have only 4 hours to decide if I should switch back to Verizon without paying penalty to Cingular. Thanks a lot!

I'm new here...can someone provide some support on debranding my SE 810i. I have gone through many of the threads to educate myself, but I still am having trouble. I have a credit with wotan. Once I connect the USB cable to my phone while holding the "C" button nothing happens except....My phone goes into file transfer mode. or my photos get uploading on my computer. The Wotan program never seems to connect with my phone.

The "C" button is the one right below the cingular internet icon correct???

I asked for support on wotan but I've got no answer.

If you have successfully completed debranding can you please help me!

Curious to know but, is there a setting to turn off the prompt that pops up everytime you drag and drop? I get a prompt everytime I drag and drop something on the the memory stick or phone file using the usb transfer. It asks if i would like to accept. Anyone else have this problem? (unlocked w810i)

Will formatting, etc., be performed correctly if Contacts and Calendar entries are B/T'd from a Nokia (6230 or 6102)to the W810i???

I know this plays mp3 songs like the ipod but I am also interested does it plays movies like the ipod. anyone that could help me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the help.

I bought a Sony memory stick pro duo 2GB memory card model MSX-M2GN off of e-bay, but when I plug it into my phone, it does not recognize it. I played around with it, and got the phone to recognize, but it won't recognize any music that I have put on the memory card from my computer. When it finally did recognize the music, it would not play the music, and the files would no longer show up on the memory card after trying to play them. What is the problem??

Am I the only person on the planet having a problem with playback volumes on downloaded mp3's? I downloaded music from iTunes because I can actually get the music to play on my phone, but its like every song has a different volume. I emailed iTunes and they say use the "sound check" feature. Well that only works when you are playing music on the computer. Basically iTunes blames my mp3 player (my w810) and Sony Ericsson blames iTunes. 🙄 So does anyone have any idea how to deal with this? I know that music I originally had CD's for is always louder than any music I have downloaded. I think I even have a song someone sent me from Limewire and it still seems like the volume is funky!

I keep wanting to be seriously interested in this phone but the couple of times I've handled it in a store the keypad really gets my attention.

I was upset with all the limitations Cingular placed on the phone so I took a chance and decided to flash it. Scary but well worth it.

Start up the program. Log in and make sure it recognizes that you have a credit. Then find your phone in the drop down menu and select the firmware versions and save them.

Shut down your phone and remove the battery and the sim card. Click "Read CID". Replace the battery, connect the USB cable that came with your phone, hold down the C button on your phone and...

The phone works great, i got mine 2 days ago and i love it. I was scared because i read all these idiots comments about low ear piece volume, and debranding to take away limitations. I almost didnt get it because of that. You people are idiots, if you cant hear on the phone then maybe you should listen better or clean out your ears. If you get on the internet because of their shortcut that you cant change, be more careful or get smaller fingers. ITs a great phone and anyone who complains about it is stupid, its fine on the ear piece hearing level and there is no need to debrand this phone. You guys need to get lives and quit trying to deter people from buying things and changing things that aren't broken. IDIOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just bought a Plantronics 510 for my W810 and it works great except for the voice activated dialing feature. Can someone please confirm that the W810 does not support voice activated dialing via bluetooth? Thank you.

DOES ANYBODY KNOW IF THEY MAKE A ARMBAND CASE FOR THE W810I. YOU KNOW LIKE FOR THE I PODS. IF YOU KNOW WHERE I CAN GET ONE PLEASE RESPOND.

I put about 200 megs of MP3s on my 512MB card and have noticed a considerable (to me) drain of the battery when only a few songs(5 or 6) are played. I burned them to the card at the 192 bit rate. Would I have any better results at 128 or lower bit rate? I have dimmed the screen to the lowest setting which is still very usable for me and and all the other things I am hoping will add up to longer battery life. BTW I have a 4Gig card on the way and may see even more drain. Does anyone have any tips to conserve battery strength?

I love my w810 and I have no problems with it in civilization. Whenever I go to visit my husband's grandmom out in the country they have an inconsistent signal. Its either 1 bar or no bars (Cingular). Is there any type of attachment that would enhance the signal in bad areas? My husband is there often taking care of his grandmom and we were hoping to chat via the Internet, but he can't seem to keep the signal (he has an 810 too). Any ideas? 😕
