So if i were to buy this and insert my Cingular 64K chip, the phone should let me know when I get a new voicemail?

If you have already sent the settings from nokiausa.com to your phone than the VMI should work if you have t-mobile. If you have Cingular the only known solution was to get one of their 64k 3g sims and call customer service to have them work with you. With Cingular it is a regional issue, some areas work and some don't.
