LG VX-8300
VX8300 V.03 2GB microSD?
I've read from some sites here that the VX8300 with version 03 firmware will recognize a 2GB memory card. However, when I e-mailed LG support about this question, here is what they replied:
"Dear Customer,
Thank you for inquiring of LG Electronics. Your e-mail has been received.
The maximum capacity of memory for the microSD card supported by the phone is 1GB. If you use a higher capacity card, only 1GB of that memory will be accessible.
Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions or concerns. Thank you again for contacting LG Electronics. "
So is this right? I don't want to waste the money on replacing my 1GB card if it won't gain me any sotrage room.

I have a 2GB card and have not reached the 1GB mark yet. I got it for a good deal otherwise I probably would have got a 1GB.
During the week sometime I will see if I can max it out at 2GB then see how much is accessible.

Thanks, that would be great. The 2GB cards are getting cheap! I hope to be able to keep my current music collection on the VX8300, and have room for some .3gp video, too.

I have a couple tests coming up in school so I wont have time to run the tests for a while.
I talked about the previous posts with one of my friends. They just don't make sense. Only 1GB will be accessible is BS. It would either be all or nothing.

Thanks! But, it's not necessarily all or nothing. Windows 98 had similar limitations - it wouldn't "see" storage on a harddrive above a certain gigabyte size, and wouldn't work properly with ram above 512mb without some tweaks.

Well, I haven't gotten a definitive answer to this, so I saw a deal for a 2GB microsd card for $11.95 and went for it. I'll report back after I get it if the phone sees all 2 gig.

Got the 2gb microSD card today, and I'm happy to report it works right out of the box.
Used the phone to format it, then copied my pics and music from the old 1gb to it.
When I checked the memory usage, it showed I had over 1gb remaining. Just to be sure, I ripped a new CD and copied to the new card, which took the storage to over 1gb, and it worked fine. Now shows 1.1GB used, .9GB remaining.
So, it works without any special tricks!

Some questions for you:
1. How do you format the 2G card in the phone?
2. Are you able to use Windows Media Player to sync music to the card or are you copying music to it via a card reader?

I was actually looking for the exact sequence to format a card but I just figured it out. For lurkers here it is:
1. Settings & Tools
2. Memory
3. Card Memory
4. Options ("Options" isn't a listed option; you have to press the softkey on your keyboard just above the Pwr button.)
