Any use for data cable if you have memory card and reader?

I was thinking about picking up the music essentials kit because I could get the data cable and stereo headset (don't care about the software.) If I don't need the cable, I'll just get some OEM headphones cheap and let that be the end of it. Any advice?
thanks

No, you don't need the cable. If you just want to play music on the phone, the easiest and cheapest is to get a microSD card with reader and transfer the songs from your computer to the card using the reader.

thanks for the reply
I'm assuming you can transfer pictures and movies too with ease, right?

Yes, you can set the phone to save pictures/movies to the card and easily move them off with the card reader.
I haven't tried putting pics onto the phone, but I would expect that to work also.

I just got my hardware upgraded to V03 (love the phone, BTW) and am about to start looking for a 2G card. What is the purpose of the software? With the card and a reader, can I just drag and drop files from a computer?

What does the software offer/do? Does it offer the ability to configure playlists, etc? If so, then I might be interested. I have seen it sold on eBay, or you might be able to find someone who has it already and borrow the disc.

But I would like to know what the software includes.

You MUST use a data cable to "sync" V-Cast or protected music to the phone. It must store the license. It can't do that via memory card, I've tried.

If you want to use the free program BitPim, you'll find the cable invaluable.

Among its other abilities, BitPim would let you save (and restore) your phnebook should you want to.

Yeah, the only useful feature I can think of the data cable is to back up your phonebook.

However, there is a better solution. for $1.99 per month, your contacts list will be automatically backed up by Verizon (over the air), and there is nothing you have to do from your part. It will make a backup every few days or when you update your contacts, or you can do it manually. And you can have it transfered to any other phone, if you wish to change, unlike the data cable, which is only good for LG.

And no, I'm not working for Verizon. I am using this feature, and am highly satisfied.
