Migrating PrePaid to PostPaid

Anyone have any experience with purchasing an A870 prepaid phone (say at Wal-Mart or similar) then activating it on a post paid (contract) account? I've heard mixed stories of mixed success. Any experts out there?

There was a loophole that allowed this to work, but they should have closed it... if the phone was bought in an INpulse box, it shouldn't be activatible on a contract, the serial number is flagged as prepay.
