Samsung SCH-A990
For you cingular users
-here to help you save $$$
It has EVDO and a 3.2 megapixel camera... also, microSD rather than memory stick...
The biggest difference here is obviously the quality of the pictures you can take... there is no comparison between 1+megapixel and the 3.2 megapixel on this phone...
I have a S710a, and it's really hard to give it up. I really don't see nothing to appealing about the A990. The main downside about the phone is that its a Samsung. The S710a really take nice pics for a 1.0+ mp phone. Probably the best out there along w/ the screen. I'm looking to upgrade when the K790a when it comes out. It should be out some time this year. What want to talk bout EVDO, Cingular is going to roll out full speed HSDPA soon. We are going to have video calls next year.
20mm slim design that puts your huge brick SE in a hardplace?
Dual stereo speakers which your SE doesn't have?
A 3.2MP AUTO-FOCUS camera which again your SE doesn't have
And then you have the better build quality (SE is a bit cheap feeling), Speech to Text, Business card scanner, oh and to top it off...
1xEV-DO highspeed broadband data.
The SE S710a is old, unrefined, and huge.
First you need to get off this forum hating on verizon. I don't see a a gsm samsung a990 fitted for the cingular network so why are you here.
Second again like everyone else said the S710 is old.
3rd you don't know anything about wireless networks, so you need to keep you mouth shut.
When HSDPA was rolled out full speed in Japan a year back the Japanese were not pleased with the speeds. Verizon has most of the US already rolled out on CDMA 2000 1X-EVDO r0. How many 3G phones does cingular have out what "2."
Verizon has many 3G phones already out, and they have disscont. alot of 3G phones already
That shows how long verizon has had EVDO, when your have already grandfathering 3G ...

I've personally had Cingular service and T-Mobile and so far Verizon has been much better in terms of network coverage!
😁
Yes, VZW's network is has faster bandwidth, currently, but try running Google Maps on that EVDO network.
I think we will be surprised with how quickly WCDMA is going to eclipse CDMA2000.
Just my $.02!
2. EVDO r0 is only the beginning, Verizon just said they are going to roll out Evdo rev. A, mostly using Lucent products. They may also uses Nortel, for the Nortel markets. But the true is they been looking in to rolling out rev. A since last year, they are just late to tell the public.
Then you have EVDO rev. B just being a software upgade, and rev. C in the already in the works.
With Verizon and even Sprint already having a national brandband network, I don't know about WCDMA "quickly eclipcing CDMA 2000."
Now the true is most likel...

Don't get me wrong, EV-DO is nice, and it will be around for a while, but WCDMA will be the world standard. Just look at the market share projections coupled with the news that two of the fastest growing CDMA markets (VIVO and Reliance) are looking to switch to WCDMA/GSM. CDMA will still be big, but I wouldn't sell WCDMA short either.
I had the s710a - with updated firmware - it is big and the UI is VERY VERY slow. It's sitting in a drawer unused because of that.
I will say though that the camera onm the s710a is awsome.
