hw6945 vs HTC 8525 or Treo 750
I just coughed up $750+ on an unlocked HP 6945 plus accidental damage extended 3yr warranty. She is currently w/ Cingular and has a Treo 650 which now is on its last leg. Unfortunately for her or me Cingular does not insure a phone which will set you back $400+ which is silly to me. My dilemma here was that I wanted to get her a 3G phone since they have a few towers in Philly. The 750 doesn’t have WiFi unless you spend $130 for a WiFi card. I put Skype on her phone so she could make affordable international calls. However, the 750 can’t make the calls b/c the processor is lower than 400 MHz. treo 750 isnt palm os so no need to bash palm. Theres a reason palm's OS is going bye bye.
As for insurance, you can insure your phone thru your home insurance. its pretty inexpensive.
i personally would go with the 750 because with HSPDA, wifi isnt that important. however, if you have a week to decide then you cant go with a 750 unless you buy an unlocked version for about 750-800.
nov. 16, the 8525 will be released by cingy and you can get for 399.99 with 2 yr extension/activation.

Unfortunately there is no 'way' around lack of insurance on these types of phones. Best you can do is take good care of them and pray for the best; just like having kids. Myself, I have spare phones that I don't care about so I use them around the pool or on vacations or when I know that I'll be around a lot of dirt or water. One other possibility is using your home owner or car insurance to cover the loss, however that depends largely on the person's plan and deductible.
