Samsung SGH-X426 / SGH-X427
Average Ratings
great phone
this phone is great, the color is really good, it is small and light, and has a few cool games, it has a lot of good ring tones, and has a simple to use phone book, another thing I like is the alarm clock, this phone would have been a lot of better if there was a camera, if you like this phone but want a camera, try the samsung e316, same phone with a camera, it is a LOT more expensive, I got the Samson for freeeee where the e316 is a good 180 dollars. also if you like this phone but still want a camera try the motorola v551, just as good as the samsung x426, but again with a camera.
pros:
-great color
-small
-light
-great features
cons:
-no camera
-no speaker phone
Great Phone With the Exception of Earpiece
I actually have owned both the 426 and 427. The 427 was the first one I owned from Cingular in Saratoga Springs NY. I took it back when I could not find an earpiece that worked with it. Cingular did not offer one with it and they did not know that only a special one made by samsung works with it. They thought it took a standard 2.5. They were wrong. I called samsung and found out the truth. I took it back on the principle that I did not want to give them the business anymore. I went to ATT Wireless and got the 426 after I found an adapter for the earpiece online. The adapter does not work. So I'm going to trade it for some other phone. At least ATT gave an ear bud with it. This earbud is too large to fit in mine or my wife's ear.
Pros: Great phone except earpiece, great reception, easy to use.
Cons: Can't get a good headphone for it. I live in NY State which requires one by law when driving.
P.S. ATT Wireless has excellent Discounts for the Military.
Good, but not the greatest!!
Have had this phone for about a week now and about to return it. First of all the features of this phone are cool, although some of the sounds are more meant for the 25 and under set. The menus are a little tricky, took me a couple of days to figure out everything. The fact that you can change settings on the length of the backlight is cool. I can also get a signal in my house, when I couldn't before with my Sony Ericsson T68i.
However, the main reason I am returning the phone are based on the prime ingredients for a working phone.
1. The battery life is bad to average. I have to charge it every day to every other day and that's with maybe only 20 minutes worth of calls.
2. People are telling me they can't hear me, that I sound like I'm talking through those speakers at a fast food drive thru window. On other occasions, I've heard myself on the phone in an echo.
3. Today was the last straw as it just froze. Like a computer with a virus, the screen froze in the middle of an action. Couldn't turn it off, nothing. Had to take the battery out and put it back in to get it working again.
So with those main problems, I am returning this phone. I wanted to like it, but it seems most of the phones from AT&T are useless at this point.
SAMSUNG X427
Sleek phone, easy to use, nice color display which is very difficult to see in the day time. The only main drawback that this phone has is its battery life. Samsung says 5 hr talk and 2oo stand by. I can get 96 hours stanby if I dont use the phone. The avg is 1 hour talk and 2 days standby for me. I got a new battery from Cingular but that was no help.Thats dismal! If I cant find an extended battery then its back to nokia.
Dreadful piece of junk...
It was a love affair at first when I received this phone three years ago. It was so small and compact, especially compared to my old Ericsson phone. It had a color screen, which was fairly rare back then, and neat ringtones. Perhaps the phone could carry a conversation in its infancy, but I can't recall because it had been so long since I was able to maintain a normal conversation with anyone on this phone. People would complain about static issue on my end and, at times, the phone would simply END the call out of nowhere! There was another occasion where my internet (of which I had been paying an extra $5 a month for) did not work. According to a (useless) rep at Cingular, it appeared to be an issue with my model phone only as no other customers were complaining about said issue. They couldn't tell me when they would be able to restore my internet connectivity (I used it so seldomly that, for all I know, it had not been functioning for weeks) and yet - MIRACULOUSLY - it was working again a few hours later. The phone is a piece of garbage and CDMA is far superior to GSM in call quality. I am extremely happy with my new LG VX8300 and if you are one of the few who are still using this fossil, do yourself a favor and find something else. But most importantly, get away from Cingular! This phone coupled with their inept and unreliable service is a recipe for disaster.
I was Disappointed!
I couldn't wait for Samsung to make this phone available for ATT. Finally when they got it, I immediately ran out and got the phone. I loved just about everything about the phone. Its sleek looking, super high tech, and the screen is amazing! Now surprisingly I decided to bring it back because I was told that I sounded bad from others who would listen to me while I had spoke with them. Not to mention there was some feed back or echo on my end as well. Kinda like I herd myself as i was talking. Listen folks, the moral of the story is simply this, it doesn't matter how nice a fun looks and can have all the bells and whistles it wants. But if you sound tinny or muffeled or just plain bad It's simply not worth it. Once again after buying many types of different cell phones I came back to Nokia. I have to admit they seem to be the best! PS. Also the ring tones on this phone are cool if your playing a Casio keyboard! Is it asking to mucfh to have a phone who's ring tones actually do ring?
had great luck with it
I previously owned this phone (X426) had great luck with it, great reception, it's a sleek great looking phone that performed very well, I highly recommend it, after this phone I owned the lg g-4050 a very, very, very big mistake a huge downgrade
It died on me
I have had this phone for about 8 to 10 months now. When I first got it it was an appealing phone. It is small and light (but the trade off is flimsy). The call quality wasn't amazing when I first got it, but it was better than average. It also seemed to be reliable enough. I don't think that I had any dropped calls. Things went downhill quickly, though.
The past two or three months, my phone has been downright awful. My house is about a mile and a half from an antenna, but for some reason I get about four bars outside and none to three inside. Dropping calls has become so common that it will happen several times a day. Also, it started cutting out way too much. It made me want to start sending things by Morse code, because conversations would be a lot faster that way. I am not sure if the problems coincide with the Cingular's takeover of AT&T, but I was AT&T before.
This phone has made me consider giving up having a cell. By the end of this week I will have a new phone.
Pros:
light and small
menu system is pretty good
initial reliability
Cons:
lack of durability
soft plastic case
dropped calls
conversations cutting in and out
Loved the features... Hated the mic
I received this phone free from AT&T as long as I switched to their new GSM Network. I was excited to start using this phone.
Needless to say, it wasn't until my mom said that there was a lot of static that I realized there was a problem. I later returned the phone for a new one. On my way from the store, I called my mom to see if I still had the same problem. I couldn't imagine what could be the problem. This new service was suppose to be clear and strong.
While stopped at a stoplight I decided to turn my vehicle off (ford diesel). My mom said the noise quit, and when I turned my vehicle back on the noise started again.
Everyone I talked to said that the noise was extremely obnoxious. I really liked the phone. Hopefully their new one will not have a sensitive mic.
Poor RF performance
I'm presently evaluating four phones on a new AT&T GSM family plan. I'll list the phones in order of RF performance (ability to make calls and have no or few dropouts or dropped calls in weak-signal areas), from best to worst:
Nokia 3595
Motorola T721
NEC 515
Samsung X426
So you see the X426 is the worst. I really want to like this phone, but unfortunately I'm gonna have to exchange it for something else. Also, the microphone is waay too sensitive -- there's lots of background noise pickup and people at the other end of calls say my voice is too loud.
Nice size, appearance, display, and usability, though.
